INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this assignment is to help prepare you for the rigours of academic writing. The process of
writing can be taken for granted at times, yet each step remains vital to the success of the final essay,
report, or presentation you will be expected to produce throughout this course. Furthermore, as scholars,
you will be navigating your studies against the background of the emerging phenomenon of Generative
Artificial Intelligence (AI). This assignment is designed to help you master the basic steps of academic
writing and to provide a solid platform on which to build strong, academically sound texts.
DESCRIPTION
Disclaimer:
Using AI-generative content alone is considered plagiarism. The following techniques can help you avoid
plagiarism and ensure that your work is original and reflects your thoughts and ideas:
• AI tools, such as ChatGPT, are designed to assist and enhance your creative process, providing
suggestions and information. They should not be used as a substitute for critical thinking and
originality.
• Use AI-generated content as a starting point to spark ideas and gain insights. However, make sure
to develop and expand upon those ideas using your knowledge, research, and personal perspective.
• Dive into relevant academic sources, books, articles, and credible online platforms to gather
information and support your arguments. Incorporate these researched materials into your work while
citing and referencing them appropriately.
• Focus on developing your unique voice and style of writing. This involves expressing your thoughts,
opinions, and interpretations in your own words, rather than relying solely on AI-generated text.
• When using external sources, make sure to properly cite and reference them by the required citation
style (e.g., STADIO’s use of Harvard style). Accurately attributing ideas and giving credit to their
original authors is crucial in avoiding plagiarism.
• Instead of copying and pasting AI-generated text, practice paraphrasing and summarising the
information in your own words. This demonstrates your understanding of the material and avoids the
risk of plagiarism.
• Before submitting your work, thoroughly proofread and edit it for any instances of unintentional
plagiarism. Ensure that your ideas are expressed in a manner that is unique to you and properly
credited when necessary.
