TEMA: Comparative Adjectives

We use comparative adjectives to compare people, animals and objects.

1. Short adjectives with one syllable (-er) + than


Tall – taller / Small – smaller / Long – longer
Example: David is taller than Elizabeth

2. Short adjectives ending with E (- r) + than


Large – Larger / Cute – Cuter / Huge – huger
Example: The elephant is huger than the tiger

3. Adjectives ending with Y (-ier) + than


Happy – happier / Heavy – heavier / Funny – funnier
Example: Jeronimo is funnier than Emmanuel

4. Adjectives with 3 syllables (more) + than


Beautiful – more beautiful / Dangerous – more dangerous / Interesting – more
interesting
Example: Juan Eduardo is more intelligent than Juan Sebastian
