2. What is the difference between Billet and Bloom ?


Ans :
Billet - A semi-finished product obtained by forging, rolling or continuously casting,
usually square (not exceeding 125 mm × 125 mm in cross-section) with rounded corners
or round (not exceeding 125 mm in diameter).
Bloom - A semi-finished forged, rolled or continuously cast product.
The cross-section is square or nearly rectangular (excluding slab) and the cross-section is
generally more than 125 mm × 125 mm (or equivalent cross-sectional area).

Mention the acceptable tolerances for dimension check.

Ans : As per IS 2830:2012 raw material (Billet and Bloom )dimension tolerance are mentioned
Below…
Billet - up to and including 75 mm Thickness on width/thickness will be +/- 1.5 mm. And
over 75 mm it will be +/- 3.0 mm.
Bloom - up to and including 150 mm Thickness on width / thickness will be +4.0mm,
- 3.0 mm . And over 150 mm it will be +6.0 mm, - 3.0 mm.

4. What should be the minimum temperature of furnace for rerolling ?

Ans : 900℃ - 1370℃ (minimum temperature depend on billet/Bloom size).

5. Mention the Indian Standard followed for dimension (Leg length) check of angle sections
. What are the acceptable tolerances for dimension check?
Ans : As per IS 1852:1985 . The tolerances on leg length are mentioned below………

Leg length Tolerance


Upto and including 45 mm +/- 1.5 mm
45 mm to 100 mm +/- 2.0 mm
Over 100 mm +/- 2 percent

*** For unequal angle 45x30x4 mm the tolerance on longer leg length
shall be +2.0mm , - 1.5 mm. And tolerance on short leg length shall be +/- 1.5 mm.
6. What is the acceptable tolerance for out of squareness check and which Indian
standard is followed ?

Ans : As per IS 1852:1985 The legs of angles shall be perpendicular to each other with in a
tolerance of +/- 1.0 degree

7. which Indian standard is followed for Camber check and what is the tolerance of camber?

Ans : As per IS 1852:1985 The permissible limits for Camber shall leg length less than 100
mm to be agreed between the manufacturer and the purchaser. Including and over 100
mm permissible with 0.2 percent of length.

(Plus and Minus).
Ans : 75 % example ( 45X45X4)= 1.5+1.5=3 of 75% = 2.25 mm.
