1. Which Indian Standard is followed for raw material (Billet/Bloom) Chemical analysis ?
Ans : IS 2830:2012
3. Which Indian Standard is followed for raw material (Billet/Bloom) dimension check? And
Mention the acceptable tolerances for dimension check.
Ans : As per IS 2830:2012 raw material (Billet and Bloom )dimension tolerance are mentioned
Below…
Billet - up to and including 75 mm Thickness on width/thickness will be +/- 1.5 mm. And
over 75 mm it will be +/- 3.0 mm.
Bloom - up to and including 150 mm Thickness on width / thickness will be +4.0mm,
- 3.0 mm . And over 150 mm it will be +6.0 mm, - 3.0 mm.
5. Mention the Indian Standard followed for dimension (Leg length) check of angle sections
. What are the acceptable tolerances for dimension check?
Ans : As per IS 1852:1985 . The tolerances on leg length are mentioned below………
*** For unequal angle 45x30x4 mm the tolerance on longer leg length
shall be +2.0mm , - 1.5 mm. And tolerance on short leg length shall be +/- 1.5 mm.
6. What is the acceptable tolerance for out of squareness check and which Indian
standard is followed ?
Ans : As per IS 1852:1985 The legs of angles shall be perpendicular to each other with in a
tolerance of +/- 1.0 degree
7. which Indian standard is followed for Camber check and what is the tolerance of camber?
Ans : As per IS 1852:1985 The permissible limits for Camber shall leg length less than 100
mm to be agreed between the manufacturer and the purchaser. Including and over 100
mm permissible with 0.2 percent of length.
8. Mention the difference between the leg lengths of equal leg angles of total tolerance
(Plus and Minus).
Ans : 75 % example ( 45X45X4)= 1.5+1.5=3 of 75% = 2.25 mm.
9. Write some name of visual defects and in which Indian Standard it is mentioned ?
Ans : Visual defects found on material are like surface flaws; laminations; rough/jagged and
imperfect edges and all other harmful defects ( as per IS 2062:2011).
10. Which Indian Standard is followed for angle sectional weight and root radius ?
11. Write the below mentioned angle sectional weight and root radius as per Indian
Standard.
13. Write the name of equipment used for dimension check and thickness check and other
Measurements.
Ans : Vernier calipers, Micrometer, radius gauge steel tape.
17. Which equipment is used for checking the out of squareness of angle?
Ans : Right angle or bevel protector is used for checking the out of squareness of Angle
18. As per which Indian Standard mechanical and chemical test is done?
Ans : Mechanical and Chemical test is done as per IS 2062:2011
Ans : Width- 10.0mm, thickness- 10.0mm, length- 55.0mm, Centre V notch 45 degree, V notch
dip- 0.2 mm.
28. Write the name of micro alloying elements used in casting iron?
Ans : Micro alloying elements are - Vanadium, Niobium, Titanium
