Dear Human Resources,

As an undergraduate chemical engineering sophomore at Texas A&M University, Qatar, I

am eager to partake in the summer internship offered at your company. It sparked my
interest that Qatar Steel’s main goal is to produce sustainable steel and I was drawn to its
ambition of becoming a principal steel provider both locally and globally. As a problem
solving, collaborative team member, and committed student, I bring an innovative skill set
and strong motivation to learn and contribute to objectives of the organization.

This past semester, as a part of my technical writing course, I participated in a formal

team collaborative project. Our project focused on the risks posed resulted by Qatar’s
over-reliance on natural gas as a source of income. We explored alternative optimal energy
sources which would be both sustainable and economically beneficial. After thorough
research, we chose solar power where exact calculations were made to create a realistic
implementation plan tailored to Qatar. Our project chosen problem and solution were
displayed through technical reports as well as a poster and a formal oral presentation.
This experience has enhanced my team collaborative skill set such as communication and
organization which enabled a high quality outcome. Problem solving was a crucial skill to
have as the project required detailed problem analysis and creative solution development.

Furthermore, for a year now, I have been participating in research assistant training with a
professor. The topic that I am currently focused on is the conversion of carbon dioxide into
acetylene. This again relates back to creating a sustainable future by capturing carbon
within the air and producing useful products instead. I have been shadowing during
lab experiment sessions where I got to familiarize with how FTIR and furnaces work. I
practiced literature reviews and also learned the programming language: Julia, to plot
and model large data sets. I have strengthened my professionalism, commitment and
independence which are essential as an engineer.

Participation at the Qatar Steel summer internship requires commitment, motivation, and
innovation abilities which I have demonstrated throughout my experience at TAMUQ.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

Kind Regards,
Asma Boughorbel
