Title : “PLIGHT OF TECHNOLOGY AND LIVELIHOOD EDUCATION (TLE)

TEACHERS OF JABONGA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL”

PROPONENT: LOJE C. MONTON

TYPE OF ACTION RESEARCH: Individual Research

I. CONTEXT & RATIONALE:

Inadequate laboratory equipment affects students learning outcomes and the

quality of graduates. Students find it difficult to understand learning materials without
laboratory activities, as they encounter unfamiliar terms and lack the resources and
materials needed for experiments.

According to Leblond (2019), “a laboratory is always considered as a relevant

and essential part so far as the teaching of Science, Computer and Technology
Livelihood and Education is concerned.”

Every school has laboratories where students can perform researches,

experiments, hands-on or actual demonstrations in application to the concepts they
have acquired through classroom discussions with the help of T.L. E laboratory and
equipment.

It gives students first-hand experience and offers better opportunities for effective
learning to take place. A T.L.E laboratory is not a place for contest whose contestants’
objective is to get the “right answer” first. Rather, it is a honing place for leaners whose
gifts are inclined to it. It is place where they (learners) see the purpose to learn, gain
knowledge, how effective observation is done and to learn the meaning of “what
happens” during the “actual demonstration”.

The aim of the study is to provide initiatives in order to address this long time
surging problem that has been affecting or hampering the TLE related skills of Jabonga
National High School learners. Hence, resulting to a half-baked TLE skilled graduates
and turning down of T.L.E related contests that will surely bring honor to the school.
This as well will reconstruct and or remodel the existing T.L.E room into a T.L.E.
Laboratory.

Although the school cannot solve right away this problem, this study will propose
certain initiatives within the means of the school teachers or school administration to
address this concern squarely. The teacher hopes that the result of this study can
produce merituous results that will bring out the best talents (related TLE) and produce
fully baked TLE gifted learners and will positively pave the way to opening another
strand related to T.L.E in the future.

Based on the 15 years’ experience as T.L.E teacher, students tend to get

focused or motivated to pursue their gifts (specifically cooking) when they are in the
right place with the right equipment. Those students who won’t fit in the T.L.E room can
only do the actual demonstration first and those who won’t fit, will have to observe from
a far (outside the T.L.E room) since they will not be accommodated at a time due to lack
of equipment and space. This case will most likely discourage students to learn.

The teachers being the front liners are influential not only in the school
experiences of the learners, but also their whole life, are responsible for the holding
power in school. That is the reason why as teacher/s, we need to address this concern
so as to draw out possible and or effective and sustainable learning to the students.
