DEDICATION

This Work Immersion Portfolio is sincerely dedicated to my dear

parents, who have had the greatest influence on me. Without
their financial and moral support, for meeting all of our needs
while we developed our system, and for teaching us that even the
most difficult tasks can be completed if they are carried out one
step at a time, our work immersion journey would not have been
a great success or even possible.

Additionally, I would like to dedicate this portfolio to Mr. John Emil

M. Sioco, our work immersion instructor, for his continued
patience and commitment to providing us with the necessary
informations. A special thanks to everyone who contributed their
time, expertise, and efforts to make this journey successful.
Thank you to all my friends, and acquaintances for their support
and for inspiring us to produce better work.

INTRODUCTION

Work immersion is an educational program that enables student

like me to get first-hand experience in a workplace setting. It
offers priceless learning opportunities because it allows students
to put what they have learned in school into practice and pick up
new skills. Students can gain knowledge about various facets of
business operations and learn how businesses run on a daily
basis by working alongside with professionals. In addition,
students like me can establish beneficial connections with
industry insiders, which might lead to future job or internship
opportunities.

Taking part in a work immersion program has numerous

advantages such as imparting practical knowledge, it also
development the skills that employers value when hiring new
hires, like collaboration and communication skills, as well as self-
confidence. Additionally, through this work immersion training we
students can pinpoint areas that still require improvement so we
can concentrate on enhancing these skill sets before entering the
job market after graduation.

Overall, work immersion has many advantages that cannot be

achieved by using only conventional educational techniques. It
offers college students like me the chance to put theory into
practice while also offering insightful information about potential
career pathways. When it comes to comprehending how a certain
field functions in actual settings and getting ready for upcoming
challenges, this kind of experience is valuable.

OBJECTIVE OF THE WORK IMMERSION

RATIONALE

One of the goals of the K to 12 Basic Education Program is to develop in learners the
competencies, work ethic, and values relevant to pursuing further education and/or joining
the world of work. To achieve greater congruence between basic education and the
nation’s development targets, Work Immersion, a required subject, has been incorporated
into the curriculum. This subject will provide learners with opportunities:

1. To become familiar with work place;

2. For employment simulation; and
3. To apply their competencies in areas of specialization/applied subjects in
authentic work environments.
OBJECTIVE OF THE WORK IMMERSION

Work immersion will help develop among the learner’s life and career skills, and will
prepare them to make decisions on postsecondary education or employment. Through
partnership building, DepEd hopes that the Partner Institutions will provide learners with
work immersion opportunities, workplace or hands-on experience, and additional learning
resources. It aims to make the learners:

1. Appreciate the important and application of the principles and theories learned in
school;
2. Enhance their technical knowledge and skills;
3. Enrich their skills in communications and human relations; and
4. Develop good work habits, attitudes, appreciation and respect for work.

WORK IMMERSION HIGHLIGHTS

Work immersion is an essential component of the Technical Vocational Livelihood Track,

specifically in the field of Home Economics. It provides students with the opportunity to apply the
knowledge and skills they have learned in the classroom to real-life work settings. This not only
helps them gain valuable practical experience but also gives them a deeper understanding of the
industry they are preparing to enter.

One of the highlights of work immersion in the Home Economics track is the hands-on
experience students receive in various areas suchculinary arts, garment making, and
housekeeping. By working in actual hospitality and culinary establishments, students develop their
skills in food preparation and presentation, table setting, and customer service. They also learn
about the different types of fabrics, sewing techniques, and garment construction methods, as well
as proper housekeeping practices.

Another highlight of work immersion in Home Economics is the opportunity for students
to observe and learn from skilled professionals in the industry. They gain insights into the daily
operations of a hospitality or culinary establishment, the challenges that employees face, and the
various career opportunities available in the field. This exposure not only broadens their
perspectives but also helps them make informed decisions about their future career paths. In
addition, work immersion allows students to develop essential workplace

LESSON LEARNED FROM THE WORK IMMERSION

EXPERIENCES

Work immersion helps you, as a student, be exposed to real life scenarios wherein you can test
your abilities if you are able to cope up with the various factors that can affect both your skills and
decisions in the workplace. Early exposure in a professional job helps you cultivate and hone your
attitude, discipline and behaviors within the field, it also gives you prior knowledge regarding the
subject matter for you to be prepared when you now have full-time job.
One of the most important things I learned during my work immersion experience was the
importance of teamwork. In a busy kitchen, teamwork is essential to ensure that all dishes are
prepared and cooked to perfection. I learned that every member of the kitchen staff has a crucial
role to play, and everyone must work together to achieve a common goal.
I also learned about the importance of time management. Working in a busy kitchen requires quick
thinking and efficient execution of tasks. Dispatching orders promptly, preparing different dishes
simultaneously, and making sure that everything is ready on time was challenging, but it was also
satisfying when everything was completed on time and the customers were satisfied. I also

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED AND THEIR SOLUTIONS

Work immersion is a valuable opportunity for students to gain practical experience and develop
skills in a real-world work setting. However, it is not without its challenges. One such challenge is
encountering problems in the workplace, such as serving food that may be culturally or health-
wise inappropriate for certain individuals. In this essay, we will discuss some common problems
that may arise during work immersion, particularly in the food service industry, and explore
possible solutions to address these issues.

One common problem that may be encountered during work immersion in a food service
establishment is serving food that goes against an individual's religious or cultural beliefs. For
example, imagine a scenario where a Muslim individual is dining at a restaurant and the server
unknowingly serves them a dish that contains pork, such as chop suey. This situation can cause
discomfort and offense to the diner, as consuming pork is prohibited in Islam. To address this
issue, it is essential for employees in the food service industry to be trained in cultural sensitivity
and to be aware of the dietary restrictions and preferences of different religious and cultural
groups. This can be achieved through regularservice industry to be trained in cultural sensitivity
and to be aware of the dietary restrictions and preferences of different religious and cultural
groups. This can be achieved through regular training sessions and workshops on cultural
competency, where employees learn about different cultural and religious practices, including
dietary restrictions. Additionally, the establishment can implement measures such as labeling
dishes with specific dietary information to ensure that individuals are aware of the ingredients in
the dishes they are consuming.
