Manuel Day-11 Reflection-Paper 117
As of today’s rotation, our schedule will be in the waling-waling cottage again for
another 3 days of clinical exposure. I missed interacting with the residents living there and
doing activities which makes them happy. For this duty, Ruel was the resident I handled and
performed the planned therapies. He was very cooperative in the activities of our therapy that
I demonstrated. He cannot verbalize words but often produces murmur sounds, do facial
expressions, and do head movements in expressing his feelings. He was always happy
whenever we finished therapy. His fine motor skills are ok, wherein he can grab things and
place them properly, just like what he did in our play therapy. However, when he gets stressed
that he cannot fit a piece in the puzzle, he tends to tap the table with his hand. Also, he likes
being complimented and does high fives. In addition, when I tend to explain and demonstrate
an activity to him, he is very fast in learning it. It is somehow similar to what I did but once
he tried it again and again, he can independently perform it by himself just by commanding
him what to do. In this clinical exposure, you really need to have a lot of patience in order for
you to build rapport with patients like them. Some of their attitudes are somehow bothering,
but you need to be considerate and understanding of their condition and you need to eradicate
For this day, there are no challenges I experience but I observed to myself that I need
to enhance my ways in communicating with patients with maladaptive patterns. I figured out
the cause of inadequate information of the resident because I cannot think of other ways of
assessing the resident and only utilize my usual ways of observing. Eventually, my exposure

I have learned, reflected, and enjoyed the first day of our exposure again in the
waling-waling cottage. I hope I will be better the next time I handle another resident and to be
able to know and gain much information with the use of the skills I learned within these past
few days in different cottages. I look forward to building rapport with other residents,
especially Ruel.
