ARFA WEEK 1

September 4-6, 2023

ACTIVITY:
During our first week on Geriatric Nursing exposure on care of the elderly at Brgy. Antongalon,
Agusan del Norte, Butuan City. On our first day of duty we had an orientation about Geriatric
Nursing and our CI’s discuss the requirements, sanctions and the things we need to know to
apply it on our second day at the Care Home for elders. Together we formulate about the
program flow for the second day at school campus. On our second day of duty at Brgy.
Antongalon we do some dance and music therapy for the elders and then after that is we do
some interaction and vital signs taking. On our third day of duty we prepare some another
therapy that can help and enjoy them, it is the art therapy some of them might enjoy it but there
some also that didn’t enjoy it like they get irritated easily but we understand it and figure some
things for them to cooperate even just a little. On our first week we encourage all of them to
participate in the activities that we prepare just for them; we enjoy the bond we make for the
elders on our first week of duty.

REFLECTION:
When I look at the schedules for our clinical rotation at first and saw that we will be having Care
of the Elderly as our first exposure for the first sem, I got excited and nervous at the same time
because we don’t have a background on this rotation and I thought that I can’t do it but in the
end we made a successful rotation on our first week. I have realized that money does not really
matter as long as you have served your purpose as a student nurse and make them happy it was
a heartwarming experience to see them happy when we arrived at their place. To see the smile’s
and laughter’s of the elders already was enough for us student nurse’s, to hear them say
“Salamat sa pag anhi ninyo, nalipay jud mi” is what matters the most to me. To see them very
appreciated to all the effort and things we do for them. I’m glad that this is my first clinical
exposure this sem and I thank God because he let us experience how to care and treat the elders
properly.

FOCUS:
One of the most critical roles for nurses is to provide utmost care for their clients. I believed that
to focus of our clinical rotation in the Care for Elderly is to bring them to enjoy life again, and
make them happy. As I was talking with Tatay D, I knew that the only things he do is to wake up,
bath, eat and enjoy watching TV then repeat the same process every day. I believed that the
purpose and our focus on why we were assigned there is to bring joy, help and care they
deserve for our elders.

ACTION:
By providing a good care for elders is a big privilege to experience. We prepare some activities
and therapies that will help them to prevent from feeling sad, depress or the feeling of isolation.
We as a student nurse’s must provide the love and care the elders deserve to receive. I learned
too many important things in this exposure the values, perception, care and of course the
dedication we put to be successful on our first week of duty, we can’t accomplish also our first
week without the help and guidance of our Clinical Instructors.

ARFA WEEK 2
September 11-13, 2023

ACTIVITY:
During our 2nd week of our Geriatric Nursing Exposure at Brgy. Antongalon, Butuan City.
We as a student nurse’s feel attached to the elders somehow. Some has a teary eyes
because of we know that we has 3 days to spend some time and fun with them. We feel
welcomed again with their staff and of course the smiles of the elders when we always
arrived as we walk inside their gate. The most heartwarming welcome and precious
smile we received always that we have seen, so we start our program with a morning
exercise every day. On the second day we have been doing some different therapies, we
prepare some games for them also and the elders seem to have fun also to what they
have been doing. We can say that our Culmination program was a success one with the
help of our duty mates and through the guidance of our beloved Clinical Instructors.

REFLECTION:
On the last day of our clinical exposure, I know it was hard for all of as to easily let them
go because already attached to the lolo’s and lola’s at the Care for Elders during our 2 nd
weeks it was hard to see them sad when we’re leaving there place. But we have to move
forward and continue our paths, my chest has been bid our good byes and we were all
trying to stop our sadness. I have been thankful to them and to our Clinical Instructors
ever since the day 1 up until the last day of our exposure. I have learned so much in this
rotation to value there time and effort just to cooperate and give their best to us. Our
time in the home of our Elders was limited but we make sure that every second is
treasured and value. We all know that they are very thankful to us so are we to them.

FOCUS:
One of the most critical roles of a nurse’s is to provide holistic and utmost care for the
clients all the time. I believed that to focus of our clinical rotation in the Care for Elderly
is to bring them to enjoy life again. I know that we have purpose on whey we were
assigned there, to make them feel special and loved by us student nurse’s even if just in
a small amount of time.

ACTION:
I believed that student nurse’s must continue to provide them a sense of belongingness,
a social life for them to enjoy, and empowers and energized them. And to gain insights
into the values, perceptions, and their opinions to be able to live and enjoy the life they
deserved.
