ACITIVTY 2: Let’s Explore!

If you are one of the sailors during Magellan’s travel, what will be your impressions toward the
Philippines and its people, culture, environment, etc.?

My impression is it has so many people who always guide to Magellan. Five hundred years ago,
Ferdinand Magellan began historic journey, the explorer and his voyage are study in
contradiction. Magellan’s crew hated him so much his expedition was the first to sail around the
world. The people before was so active, based on the story that I’ve read there has a nine men
came to them and showed joy and eagerness but Magellan realized that the men reasonable
welcome them with foods, drinks and gifts. And in turn the native gave them fish, palm wine and
figs etc. I must say that the people before had a good intention to them. Magellan spoke before
the people of Cebu about peace and God. Pigafetta reported that the people took pleasure in
Magellan’s speech. During that time I could say that it is full of war, I can’t imagine myself
existing in that moment. After the mass, Magellan ordered that the cross be brought with nails
and crown in place. Magellan explained that the cross, nails and the crown were the sign of his
emperor and that he was ordered to plant it in the places he would reach.
