The objectives of this course are to enlighten students on:
1. the importance of the philosophical and historical
foundations of Islamic education and why and how it is a
critical enterprise
2. the aims, objectives and concept of education as envisaged in
the Qur'an and the Sunnah
Course Objectives 3. the theory and practice of education throughout Islamic
history up to the present.
4. the development of Muslim educational institutions and
educational thoughts including the mission of Islamization of
Knowledge
5. the methods of critical analysis of educational issues

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:


1. explain the meaning of foundations of education and why
and how it can become a critical enterprise.
2. elaborate the aims, objectives and concepts of Islamic
education as envisaged in the Qur'an and the Sunnah.
3. analyse the theory and practice of education throughout

The course is designed to introduce students to the inquiry called
foundations of education which is a critical enterprise through
reflecting on and understanding of the philosophical and historical
foundations of Islamic education. Its major concern is the
clarification and interpretation of aims, objectives and concept of
Course Synopsis education as envisaged in the Qur'an and the Sunnah. It analyses the
theory and practice of education throughout Islamic history up to the
present and the development of Muslim educational institutions and
educational thoughts. A brief comparative perspective with Western
philosophies of education will be highlighted.
