II. Facilitating Strategies
Components Duration Activities and Procedure

Preparation and 30 mins. The teacher will create a quiet and conducive reading
Setting In atmosphere in the classroom or designated reading
areas. Brief relaxation exercises can be conducted to
help learners’ transition into a reading mind set.

Learners will gather their chosen reading materials and


find a comfortable spot for reading.

The teacher will provide pictures related to Filipino


culture. (Picture Analysis)

Activity 1: Share a picture of a traditional Filipino fiesta


and ask learners to describe the scene using their prior
knowledge and personal experiences.

Activity 2: Show a picture of a popular Filipino folktale


character and ask learners to share what they know
about the character the story associated with it.

Dedicated Reading 60 mins. Teaching Strategy: Role-Playing


Time
Instructional Materials: Props, character cards

Activity: Divide the class into groups and assign each


group a different character from a popular story. Have
them create a short skit where the characters interact
and introduce themselves, setting the stage for the
story train activity.

Materials: Story train template, markers, construction


paper

Significance: This activity allows learners to


collaborate and practice their creative writing skills
while also developing their reading comprehension
through storytelling.

Instructions:
1) Provide each group with a story train template,
markers, and construction paper.
2) Instruct them to choose a theme or topic for their
story train.
3) Have them create a series of connected train cars,
each representing a different part of the story.
4) Encourage learners to use descriptive language,
dialogue, and vivid imagery in their storytelling.
5) Assess the story trains based on creativity,
coherence, and adherence to the given theme.

Rubric:
- Creativity: 15 pts
- Coherence: 15 pts
- Adherence to theme: 15 pts

Assessment Questions:
1) What was the most challenging part of creating your
story train?
2) How did you use descriptive language to engage
readers in your story?
3) What did you learn about the importance of
sequencing and organization in storytelling?

The teacher will guide the discussion about a story


train, including the concept of sequencing, character
development, and using descriptive language to
readers. Learners will actively participate by sharing
their own ideas and asking questions.

Activity: 45 mins. Teaching Strategy: Project-Based Learning

Design A Story Train Learners will work individually or by pair to design a


Poster visually appealing poster that showcases their story
train. They will apply what they have learned about
storytelling to create engaging and informative
multimedia projects.
Wrap Up 15 mins. The teacher will:
1. reinforce key points or main take away from the
materials read or shared;
2. ask questions to the learners about their reading
experiences; or
3. encourage learners to ask questions in case of some
confusion; and
4. ask for general feedback from learners.
Goal for the next reading adventure: Organize a
Storytelling Event

Learners may organize a storytelling event where they


can share their story trains with younger learners or
members of the community. This will allow them to
practice their storytelling skills and see the impact of
their stories on others.

Assignment: Story Train Reflection

Overview: Learners will write a reflection about their


experiences on creating a story train, focusing on what
they learned about storytelling and the challenges they
encountered.
