My background
BRUNO BENEVOLO FRANÇA, B.Eng

• 20 year career span: industry specific expertise in EDMS/PDM/VFI for large-scale shipbuilding
and offshore EPC projects as well as senior consulting role in CAD-PDM/PLM-ERP integration
projects.
• SSI partner and lead on CAD/CAM and EDMS/PDM implementation projects for 26 newbuild
FPSO, Semi-sub, Drillship and Suezmax tanker projects for the Brazilian offshore and
shipbuilding industry.

ARCOS Overview

TRANSFORMING THE BUSINESS OF SHIPBUILDING

• Joint venture founded by key members of SSI leadership and a senior SSI partner

• Our objective is to help your organization be more competitive and profitable in the
"Business of Shipbuilding".

• Achieve desired process improvements with PLM and ERP implementation projects.

• On time and on budget.

ARCOS Innovations

ARCOS can provide the required shipbuilding expertise and missing technology
components to make your Shipbuilding PLM implementation successful.

ARCOS can provide:

• Shipbuilding PLM consulting and implementation services.

• Specific technology components for Shipbuilding PLM/ERP integration.

Digital manufacturing in the automotive industry

• A new wave of digital manufacturing initiatives already underway.

• Pervasive use of robotics facilitates end to end flow of digital information.

• Volume of production justifies investment for new automated plants.

Digital Shipbuilding Vision
An orchestrated and automated flow of
digital information across the shipyard.
Digital Shipbuilding Challenges

• “Legacy Port" of known processes still driven by 2D documentation, Excel sheets,

department level databases (Business 0f Engineering).

• New initiatives with robotics underway, but many manufacturing processes still
require human intervention and paper distribution.

• Limited production runs in shipbuilding lead to incremental approach for

manufacturing automation adoption.

• Investments in technology often focus on specific isolated process improvements.

Legacy PLM Industry Issues

Legacy PLM business model is wrong for the enterprise:

• Lots of people need access (can’t be a specialist tool).

• Each new module means additional license costs.

• Cost prohibitive to implement and customize.

• Continuous incremental process improvement: mission impossible.

• Systems are difficult to use. New functionality often delivered as a patchwork of software
applications purchased via acquisitions, with no consistent UI.

Why have we not achieved the desired ROI for Shipbuilding PLM?

• PLM systems do not have shipbuilding DNA.

• PLM vendors, IT consultants and system integrators often lack shipbuilding

experience.

• The closed and monolithic technology platforms deployed by legacy PLM vendors
do not have the necessary agility and flexibility to meet the unique requirements
of the shipbuilding industry.

• Do no offer an effective incremental approach for ROI.

ARAS Innovator PLM

ARAS Innovator offers extensive out-of-the-box functionality and an open and modern web-based
architecture, enabling customers to deploy quickly and continuously enhance their PLM environment
in a fraction of the time required by conventional enterprise PLM / PDM systems.

The bottom line for Shipbuilding PLM: Aras Innovator is a truly adaptive PLM platform that can scale in
configuration complexity AND offer the required agility to meet specific shipbuilding requirements.

With Aras PLM shipyards can experience incremental gains, avoiding the high risk big-bang
implelmentation scenario.
