Academic Help and Resources

Transitioning into college presents unique challenges, particularly for student-athletes or

those juggling outside commitments. Students grapple with harmonizing academic

responsibilities alongside other obligations in their inaugural semester. This struggle is notably

evident among student-athletes tasked with managing practice schedules, game travel, and the

imperative to excel in their sport while staying on top of coursework. Consequently,

disorganization, missed deadlines, and academic setbacks may ensue. Fortunately, Texas A&M

International University (TAMIU) extends a helping hand through resources like the ACE

Center, offering free tutoring and educational support. Accessible through the admissions front

desk or provided in UNIV classes, the ACE brochure outlines its services catering to the diverse

needs of TAMIU students.

The ACE brochure is a summary of support services tailored to TAMIU students. It

contains various free academic assistance programs designed to cultivate indispensable study

skills and learning methods crucial for academic success. Ranging from personalized advising to

tutoring sessions and access to educational reservoirs, ACE stands committed to inspiring and

empowering students toward success. The core mission of ACE—Academic Support—is to

bridge students' learning gaps through tutoring, supplemental instruction, and workshops on
study skills, fostering preparedness for classes, timely submission of assignments, and an

enriched college experience at TAMIU. Anchored on values of prioritizing students,

professionalism, respect, and fostering a growth mindset, ACE goes beyond conventional

tutoring to nurture holistic student development.

Moreover, as part of the First-Year Experience program, ACE offers peer mentorship to

aid students in acclimating to university life. These seasoned mentors furnish insights into

campus culture, facilitate academic and personal growth, grant access to campus resources, and

serve as approachable allies throughout UNIV 1201 and UNIV 1302 courses. These foundational

courses impart essential knowledge and instill invaluable life skills, ensuring students are well-

equipped for the challenges ahead. By leveraging the wisdom of mentors who have weathered

the storms of college life, first-year students gain invaluable guidance on navigating their

collegiate journey and preparing for the future beyond TAMIU.

The ACE Center distinguishes itself by offering tailored programs and services crafted to

support TAMIU students throughout their academic odyssey. Beyond conventional tutoring,

ACE provides many courses and study skills workshops to enhance student's learning

experiences and foster academic excellence. From time management to exam preparation, ACE

equips students with the requisite tools and strategies to surmount academic hurdles and

actualize their educational aspirations. Including peer-led teaching sessions ensures that students

benefit from firsthand insights and relatable guidance, fostering a collaborative learning

environment conducive to academic success.

Undoubtedly, all college students encounter obstacles along their academic journey,

particularly those undertaking rigorous majors or balancing athletic commitments. Whether

grappling with the pressures of collegiate sports or juggling work and caregiving responsibilities,
the ACE Center remains steadfast in its commitment to providing inclusive academic support.

organizational skills, or gearing up for exams—the ACE Center ensures that every student

receives the requisite support to thrive academically. Flexible tutoring sessions, including virtual

options, accommodate students' varied schedules, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity.
