AUT 367 CLASS EXERCISE 5

1. i) reduces friction and wear between moving parts of the engine.

ii) helps transfer heat and cools engine components.
iii) absorbs shock from moving parts of the engine to quieten engine operation and
extend engine life.
iv) cleans the insides of the engine by removing contaminants.
2. Centrifugal oil pump.
3. Circulate oil from the oil pan with pressure to the parts of the engine.
4. Cools the oil passing through the engine to improve transmission and engine life
5. Diesel engine requires oil with higher viscosity.
6. Pressure regulators reduce a supply (or inlet) pressure to a lower outlet pressure and
work to maintain this outlet pressure despite fluctuations in the inlet pressure.
7. These are some of the motor oils used in automobiles. Synthetic oil, Synthetic Blend
oil, High Mileage oil and Conventional Motor oil.
8. The strainer separates oil from visible contaminating particles whereas the oil filter
cleans the oil by removing all sorts of contaminants.
9. An oil pressure gauge measures the pressure of the engine oil as it circulates through
the engine and displays the pressure on a gauge.
10. The marks on a dipstick show maximum and minimum capacity of oil in the engine.
