PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS: This pattern is written using American terminology and is worked in continuous
rounds unless otherwise stated. If Sweetie is made using the materials described, she is ~23 cm/9 inches long
from the tip of her nose to the end of her tail.

SKILL LEVEL: Advanced

MATERIALS REQUIRED (DESCRIPTIONS IN BRACKETS INDICATE THOSE USED IN THE

PICTURED EXAMPLE):
1. Yarn (This example uses Krea Deluxe Organic Cotton yarn 50 g in (A) Colour 44 or Dark Brown, (B) Colour 18 or
Light Brown, (C) Colour 08 or Peach, (D) Colour 21 or Dark Blue, (E) Colour 25 or Light Blue, (F) Colour 01 or White,
(G) Colour 02 or Light Beige). One ball of each colour is sufficient.
2. Crochet hook in accordance with the yarn you use (2.5 mm)
3. Fibrefill / toy stuffing
4. Black safety eyes (7 mm)
5. Pink embroidery thread (DMC Cotton Embroidery Floss, #3727)
6. Stitch markers, yarn and embroidery needles

ABBREVIATIONS: ch = chain | dc = double crochet | dc-inc = double crochet increase | dec = decrease
FLO = front loop only | hdc = half double crochet | inc = increase | rnd = round | sc = single crochet
sl = slip stitch | st = stitch

A VERY QUICK GUIDE TO THE CROCHET STITCHES USED IN THIS PATTERN:

1. Chain (ch): Insert hook, yarn over, pull loop through loop on hook.
2. Double crochet (dc): Yarn over, insert hook, yarn over, pull loop through stitch (there should be 3 loops on hook),
yarn over, pull loop through both loops left on hook (there should be 2 loops left on hook), yarn over, pull loop
through remaining loop on hook.
3. Double crochet increase (dc-inc): Work two double crochets into the same stitch.
4. Decrease (dec): I prefer to use the “invisible” decrease. For this, insert hook into front loop of first stitch (from
the front and under). Repeat into front loop of next stitch. Yarn over and pull loop through two loops on hook, yarn
over and pull loop through final two loops on hook.
5. Half double crochet (hdc): Yarn over, insert hook, yarn over, pull loop through stitch (there should be 3 loops on
hook), yarn over, pull loop through all three loops on the hook.
6. Increase (inc): Work two single crochets into the same stitch.
7. Magic ring: Wrap yarn around fingers to form a loop. Insert hook through middle of loop. Pull working end of yarn
through ring and chain the required number of stitches through. Pull the yarn ends to close the loop.
8. Single crochet (sc): Insert hook, yarn over, pull loop through stitch (there should be 2 loops on hook), yarn over,
pull loop through both loops on hook.
9. Slip stitch (st): Insert hook, yarn over, pull loop through stitch and loop on hook.

I recommend using the mattress stitch to do this
(Pictures 15-16).

Inner ring of lens (in Colour 44 or Dark Brown) x 2

We will use the surface slip stitch to crochet the inner PICTURE 15
ring of the lens. The inner ring should be stitched
between Rnd 2 and 3 of the lens.

PICTURE 16
Insert the hook into a space between Rnd 2 and 3 at
the middle bottom of the lens (Picture 17). Pull up a
loop (Picture 18), insert hook into next space along the
Rnd (Picture 19), yarn over and pull up a loop (Picture
20), pull the new loop through the existing loop on hook PICTURE 17
(Picture 21).

Keep crocheting surface slip stitches around the lens

in the same manner, directing the stitches where you
want them to go.

When you reach the last stitch, simply cut the yarn and
fasten off. Thread this yarn end through a needle and PICTURE 19
sew the yarn tail back through the lens and weave in
both the start and end yarn tails on the back side of the
lens.
PICTURE 20

In general, there should be a round of white stitches

between the dark brown perimeter of the goggles and
the inner ring of the lens (Picture 22). Note that there Bring yarn tail back
through lens and
will be a point you might have to cross over a round due PICTURE 21 weave in back

Page 14
Goggle strap (in Colour 44 or Dark Brown)

Before crocheting the goggle strap, first sew the goggles Rnd 2
onto the hat. The goggles should go over ~Rnd 3 and
10 of the front of the hat between the two ear holes
(Picture 23). We will once again use the surface slip st
to crochet the goggle strap onto the hat.

As a guide, the strap will go two rounds under the PICTURE 23

bottom of the ear hole. Insert hook under a dark brown
st of the right side of the goggles closest to where the
strap will start and at the same time poke through a
PICTURE 24
space through hat below (Picture 24). Pull loop through
space in hat and through the brown st on the goggles
where you started (Picture 25).

Insert hook into next space along, yarn over and pull PICTURE 25
up a loop through hat (Picture 26), pull this new loop
through the existing loop on hook.

PICTURE 26
Keep crocheting surface slip stitches around the hat
until you reach the left side of the goggles. Make sure
that the strap should be 2 rounds below both ear holes Cross over where
each Rnd ends
(Picture 27).
PICTURE 27
Note that at the back centre of the hat, you will need
to cross over the Rnd to ensure that the strap ends up
being two rounds under the left ear hole as well (Picture
PICTURE 28
28).

When you reach the last stitch near the left side of the
goggles, simply cut the yarn and fasten off (Picture 29).
Thread this yarn end through a needle and sew the PICTURE 29
yarn tail back through a brown st on the left side of the
goggles (Picture 30) and weave in both the start and
end yarn tails on the inside of the hat.

ASSEMBLY

1. Sew the body to the head. The opening of the body

should be sewn over ~Rnd 27 to 30 of the back of the
Rnd 26
head (Picture 31). Use the marked st from Rnd 16 of the
body to align the head position (Picture 32).

PICTURE 31
2. Sew the ears over Rnd 17 and 18 of the head (Picture
33). The front of the ears should be 15 st apart (Picture
34).

3. Sew the arms to the underside of the body. The front

corners should be sewn between Rnd 27 and 28 of the
body, 5 st apart (Picture 35). The back corners should
be sewn between Rnd 23 and 24 of the body, 10 st PICTURE 32
apart. Use the start yarn tail to sew along the top edge
of the arm (Picture 36). Note that the marked st from Rnd 18

Rnd 2 of the arm should face down.

4. Sew the legs to the underside of the body. The front

corners should be sewn between Rnd 12 and 13 of the
body, 10 st apart (Picture 35). The back corners should
PICTURE 33
be between Rnd 8 and 9 of the body, 14 st apart. Again,
use the start yarn tail to sew along the top edge of
the leg. Note that the marked st from Rnd 2 of the leg
should face down.

the arm should correspond to a row end of the wing.
The front of the wing should finish between Rnd 16 and

aligned, continue with the start yarn tail to sew the front
of the wing from the body and out along the back of the

end yarn tail of the wing to sew the back of the wing from
the end of the leg and back towards the body along the
front of the leg. Fasten off and weave in the yarn ends.

6. Sew the tail onto the body. The base of the tail
should fall over Rnd 4 to 6 of the body (Picture 42). You
can position the subtle curve of the tail in whichever
direction you wish. I had the colour change at Rnd 15 Rnd 6
of the tail point towards the left.

7. Sew the head stripe onto the top of the head over Rnd
10 to 25 of the head. The wider end should be towards

the back of the head and the stripe should be centred
between the ears. There should be ~4 st between
the edge of the stripe and the inside back corners of
the ears (Picture 43). The front end of the head stripe 4 st 4 st
