POLYETHYLENE RESIN MOLDING MATERIAL

1. Scope
This standard covers the general properties of polyethylene resin molding materials (hereinafter
referred to as "molding materials") used for automotive plastic parts. The molding materials shall
meet a part performance criteria and material specifications which are specified in separate
standards.
The parts made of materials provided by this standard shall conform to prohibitions and restrictions for
substances of environmental concern in TSZ0001G. Exempt uses specified by EU ELV Directive
shall conform to the latest version of the Directive.

2. Classification and Designation


The classification and designation of molding materials are specified in Table 1.

3. Quality
The properties of the molding materials shall be tested in accordance with Section 4, judged by
Section 5, and the results shall meet the criteria specified in Table 2 or 3 and 4.

4. Test Method
4.1 Old-JIS-Compliant Test Method
4.1.1 General Testing Conditions
Unless otherwise specified in the part and material standards, the test shall be conducted under the
conditions specified in the following (1) through (5).
(1) Conditioning
Condition the test samples and/or specimens in accordance with Section 4, TSM0501G for not
less than 24 h.
(2) Atmosphere
In accordance with Section 5, TSM0501G.
(3) Sampling
In accordance with Section 6, TSM0501G.
(4) Preparation of test specimens
In accordance with Section 3.1, TSM0501G.
(5) Number of test specimens
In accordance with Section 6, TSM0501G.

4.1.2 Specific Gravity Test


In accordance with Section 9.1, TSM0501G.

4.1.3 Tensile Test


In accordance with Section 9.2, TSM0501G. Conduct the test in the atmosphere of 23 2 with
10 mm/min of crosshead speed.

4.1.4 Flexural Test


In accordance with Section 9.3, TSM0501G. Conduct the test in the atmosphere of 23 2 with
2.0 mm/min of crosshead speed.

4.1.5 Izod Impact Test


In accordance with Section 9.4, TSM0501G. Conduct the test in the atmosphere of 23 2 and
-30 2 .

4.1.6 Hardness Measurement Test


In accordance with Section 9.9, TSM0501G. Conduct the test in the atmosphere of 23 2 and
measure on D-Scale with Shore hardness.

4.1.7 Heat Deflection Temperature Measurement Test


In accordance with Section 9.6, TSM0501G. Conduct the test at 455 kPa of flexural stress.

4.2 ISO-Compliant Test Method


4.2.1 General Testing Conditions
The test shall be conducted under the conditions specified in the following (1) through (4).
(1) Conditioning
Condition the test samples and/or specimens prior to the test in accordance with Section 2.4,
TSM0506G.
(2) Atmosphere
In accordance with Section 2.4, TSM0506G.
(3) Preparation of test specimens
In accordance with Section 2, TSM0506G.
(4) Number of test specimens
Unless otherwise specified, the number of test specimens (n) shall be 10 or more.

4.2.2 Density Measurement


In accordance with Section 3.1, TSM0506G.

4.2.3 Tensile Test


In accordance with Section 3.2, TSM0506G. Tensile speed shall be 50 mm/min in yield strength and
deformation measurement, and 1 mm/min in tensile elasticity modulus measurement.

4.2.4 Hardness Measurement Test


In accordance with Section 3.7, TSM0506G. Conduct the test in the atmosphere of 23 2 and
measure on D-Scale with Shore hardness.

4.2.5 Deflection Temperature under Load Measurement Test


In accordance with Section 3.4, TSM0506G. Conduct the test at 0.45 MPa of flexural stress.

4.2.6 Charpy Impact Test


In accordance with Section 3.3, TSM0506G. Conduct the test in the atmosphere of 23 2 and -
30 2 .

4.3 Other Test Method


4.3.1 Water Absorption Measurement Test
In accordance with Section 9.16, TSM0501G.

4.3.2 Glass Haziness Test


No glass haziness test is necessary for molding materials made into exterior parts. When conducting
the test, conform to Methods A and B specified in TSM0503G. The heating temperature shall be
80 .

4.3.3 Flammability Test


No flammability test is necessary for molding materials made into exterior parts. When conducting
the test, conform to TSM0500G. Prepare specimens having a length between 350 to 355 mm, width
of 100 mm, and a thickness as the finished part.

5. Evaluation of the Test Result


5.1 Numerical Value of Test Results
Calculate the mean value ( ) and the standard deviation (s) from the data obtained from the
procedures given in Section 4. Rounding of the numbers is defined in Section 6, TSM0501G.

5.2 Evaluation of Test Result


The judgment for qualification is determined in accordance with the followings by applying the values
obtained from Section 5.1.
(1) For lower limit values specified in Section 3
Accept: (SL - 2.00 s)
Reject: (SL > - 2.00 s)
SL: lower limit value of specification
(2) For upper limit values specified in Section 3
Accept: (SU + 2.00 s)
Reject: (SU < + 2.00 s)
SU: upper limit value of specification
