Activity 1 – “Look Back”

Listed below are some of the traditional Filipino family values whom the Rizal family practices.
Evaluate if your family still practice these values. Explain your answer.

1. Pagmamano
In our family, we still practice pagmamano. Every time I
come home, I greet my mother by taking her hand and
doing the pagmamano. Similarly, when I leave for school,
I do the same. It's a special way of showing respect and
love without words. I also teach this tradition to my
younger sibling as they should know the importance of it.
It is more than simply a token gesture. By doing
continuing to do this tradition, it reinforces the wisdom
and values that shape our family.

2. Hospitality
The spirit of hospitality is evident in our
home. We extend a warm welcome to all
who enter our home, whether they are
friends or family. Our family's sincere
warmth reaches out to our visitors, fostering
an atmosphere where each person is treated
with respect and felt like a valued member.
We think it's important to greet people with
open arms and hearts, regardless of whether
we're meeting them for the first time or not.
For us, the true meaning of hospitality is not
only the space we provide, but also the
kindness of making people feel at home.

3. Family-Oriented / Pagpapahalaga sa Pamilya

As a deeply familial person, what I am

doing right now is greatly linked to the ties
that bind us all together. My unwavering
commitment to providing my family with a
comfortable and joyful existence serves as
the motivation behind all of my
achievements. Every choice we make and
every action we do is motivated by our
affection for one another and our desire to
build a foundation of love and support. Our
bond is shaped by this sense of togetherness
, and everything we do is done as a family to
make sure that everyone is content and
happy.

4. God-fearing
God is highly regarded in our family, and
this belief influences our morals and
behavior. As a Catholic, we follow a religion
that teaches us to live moral lives filled with
compassion, generosity, and honesty.
Respecting the teachings that encourage us
to treat others well and live honorably is
what inspires fear in God. It functions as a
moral compass for us, guiding us to make
choices consistent with our family's core
beliefs and promoting a feeling of cohesion.
