2. Technical description
2.1 General
This crane is of electro-hydraulic crane type. This means that an electric motor is used to
drive a hydraulic pump. This pump supplies a flow of oil at high pressure, which is utilized
as the transmitting force to propel the hydraulic motors as the means to operate the
hoisting winch, hydraulic cylinder, and the slewing motion.
Relief valves are used to provide overload protection on all motions. In addition, an
emergency stop valve is fitted at the main operating console. The emergency stop valve
bypass oil flow from main control valve directly to oil tank, thus rendering the crane
immobilized, as no oil is available to operate any of the crane motions.
In the centre of the stationary part the electric motor is mounted with its rotating shaft
extending vertically upwards. In the centre of the rotating part the hydraulic pump is
mounted with its shaft pointing vertically downwards.
Together with a shaft extension, the electric motor and the hydraulic pump are
interconnected through a mechanical coupling.
Between the top flange of the stationary part and the bottom flange of the rotating part,
the slew bearing is bolted to each of the flanges with pre-stressed bolts. The stationary
part (inner ring) of the slew bearing is produced with internal gear teeth, into which the
pinions of the slew gearbox are meshed.
The control platform is located outside the crane king and radio remote control.
The control console consists of four control levers for the control functions of the slew,
winch, jib and knuckle jib.
start/stop of pump motor is done from push button box on the crane pedestal.
2.4 Hydraulic
The pump supplies oil to the jib, slew and winch system. When none of the control
handles are operated, oil goes directly through the oil filters (where impurities in the oil
will be removed) back to oil tank.
The hydraulic jib cylinder is based on a rugged well-proven construction. The cylinder
eyes have composite bearings with high loading-capacity. A locking valve is mounted
directly on the cylinder end toward the king. This is opened by hydraulic pressure when
operating jib down and will control the jib in down motion.
When driving jib up, the oil pass through a one-way valve. If oil pressure disappears the
cylinder locking valve will close and the jib motion will stop.
2.6 Winch
The winch is located on the jib. It consists of a steel winch drum, a foundation with a
bolted-on gearbox and hydraulic motor. A hook stop valve is located on the opposite side
of the winch gear.
Securing the hoisting wire from being winded completely off the drum, which may cause
an instant reverse winding on the wire.
Secure the hook from being hoisted too far up and avoid a collision with the crane boom.
The slewing bearing used on the crane is of a high quality make and of the ball bearing
type, specially designed and calculated for use on deck cranes.
The slew gearbox pinions are meshed with the geared inner ring of the slew bearing.
Slew gears with motors are driving the slew motion.
The planetary slew gearbox contains a rugged disc brake immersed and working in the
gear oil bath. A positive pressure has to be applied to the brake unit to release the brake.
3. Mounting
This TTS Marine crane is to be welded directly to the deck or some other type of support.
As a minimum requirement (of the various classification organizations) the deck must be
designed to withstand the cranes max. bending moment with a 25% overload.
NOTE:
1. To avoid distortion of slew bearing support flange, we recommend welding the crane
base to substructure before crane slew bearing is connected to crane base.
2. Check adjoining welding grooves to obtain an even gap through the circumference.
Also an evenly distributed heat input is required to avoid distortion.
3. The flange is obviously more exposed to distortion if deck stiffeners, platforms etc. are
welded to crane base. All such welding has to be completed and the structure has to
return to normal temperature before the slew bearing support flange is measured for
flatness.
4. For optimal slew bearing life the base flange flatness has to be kept within given
tolerances, see G.A. drawing.
Before mounting base and slew bearing together check the following:
1. Flange machined surface is clean and free from paint and welding slag, etc.
2. Check bolt length. Only bolt type indicated in the parts list are to be used.
3. The boltholes in the base flange must match so that the bolts go freely through the
holes and without resistance when rotated in the holes.
4. Hardened washers as indicated in parts list and on G.A. drawing are to be used under
bolt heads.
5. The tightening torque indicated on the G.A. drawing is based upon lightly oiled bolt
thread surface. We recommend lubricating with MOLYCOTE 1000 because of its
relative stability between tightening torque and bolt tension with special consideration
given to re-tightening. MOLYCOTE 1000 is also a corrosion inhibitor.
The crane construction is a complete unit with the el. motor built into the crane base.

9. Lubrication Table
General notes:
Refer to operation and maintenance for details of lubrication/grease points, quantities, intervals,
etc.
See separate chart for initial type of lubrication of crane when delivered. If a different make is to
be used, always check compatibility with «old» lubricant first. Do not mix synthetic lubricants
with mineral oil based lubricants.
