Chapter 9 Configuration Example

9.1 About the Chapter

Data configuration for the UMG8900 varies with different networking applications.
This chapter provides configuration examples for the following typical applications.
 Serving as TG (embedded with SG)
 Serving as TG (centralized forward)
 Serving as AG (PV8 + RSP, connecting RSP directly)
 Serving as AG (connecting V5 access network users)
 Serving as AG (connecting PBX users through PRA trunk)
 Serving as AG (connecting PBX users through R2 trunk)
By examining these examples, you can gain a deeper understanding on the
UMG8900 data configuration.

 Note:
To avoid redundancy, this chapter does not detail all parameters. For details of how to set these
parameters, refer to related parts in the first 8 chapters.

III. Data for Interconnecing PSTN Switch

The interconnection data between the UMG8900 and the PSTN switch are related to
time slots assignment, as shown in Table 9-1. You need to collect the data about time
slots assignment before data configuration.

backup mode configured with internal time slots.
The other three S2L boards and all E32 boards are
configured with external time slots.

IV. IP Bearer Data of Core Network

The UMG8900 connects other MGWs of IP side over IP links. Therefore, before data
configuration you need to collect IP addresses and routes as shown in Table 9-1.

Table 9-1 IP bearer data of core network

No. Items Data

1 The IP addresses of the HRB 1 (the 10.10.2.1/24–10.10.2.8/24

V. Data for Interconnecting SoftX3000

The UMG8900 is configured with two MGCs to realize dual homing. So you need to
collect the configuration data for interconnecting the SoftX3000 as shown in Table 9-

VI. Data for Signaling Forward

The SG built in the UMG8900 forwards signaling of the PSTN switch to the SoftX3000
in the MTP2-M2UA mode. So you need to collect the configuration of this function as
shown in Table 9-1.

If using an independent SG, you do not need to configure signaling forward.

III. Data for Interconnecting PSTN Switch

The interconnection data between the UMG8900 and the PSTN switch are related to
time slots assignment, as shown in Table 9-1. You need to collect the data about time
slots assignment before data configuration

The other three S2L boards and all E32 boards are
configured with external time slots.

IV. Data for Centralized Forward

The port 4 on the E8T is used to forward all the H.248 packets, SIGTRAN packets
and OMC packets. So you need to collect the configuration data of the function as
shown in Table 9-1.

Caution:

One SPF board can be configured with two sub boards to process narrow band signaling. Before adding
a Q.921 link, you shall query whether the state of SPF sub boards is normal or error by the command
DSP SPFSUBRD (if no sub board is configured, the querying result is error too). The SPF sub board in
error cannot be used to process signaling.

III. Data for Interconnecting PBX

The interconnecting data between UMG8900 and PBX are mainly the planning of
time slots, as shown in Table 9-1.

Table 9-1 Interconnecting Data between UMG8900 and PBX

E32 board 3: 3072 - 4095

Because one E32 board can only process limited number of

CAS (not more than 16 CAS relays), 40 R2 relays are
2 Relay type allocated to 4 E32 boards. On each E32 board, the first 10
E1 ports are configured as R2 time slot and the last 22 E1
ports are configured as external time slot for future use.

IV. Data for Inconnecting SoftX3000
