COOPERATIVE ALLIANCES

GROUP ASSIGMENT OF THE ASEAN LAW COMMUNITY MODULE

(The 2nd SEMESTER OF ACADEMIC YEAR 2023-2024)

Requirements:

- Formatting: Group work should be in A4-size paper;13 or 14 point font;


Times New Roman; margin width of top, bottom, left, right is 2.5cm, 2.5cm,
3.5cm, 2cm respectively; 1.5 lines - spaced

- The length should not be over 12 pages

- Content: Besides the basic knowledge that topic requires, other relating
knowledge is encouraged.

- The project would be presented in paper, soft file and PowerPoint. The soft file
and PowerPoint can be submitted no later than the presentation (the soft file
and PowerPoint should be sent to: bomonluatasean@gmail.com). The group-
working report must include contact of the Leader or other representative of the
group (mobile phone number and email address).
Presentation requirements: (account for a large proportion of the final mark
of the project):
- Presenting time: 15 minutes. Discussion: 10 minutes
- Aim of the presentation: Students of other groups could understand and take
notes of the main ideas of the project
- PowerPoint is compulsory when presenting and this is a criteria of the
assessment
- At least 3 members of the group take turn to present the project

- All of the members in the group must understand the main ideas presented and
can answer the lecturer’s questions
- The lecturer could send his questions to the group 01 day before the day of
presentation via email address if necessary (not compulsory). That group must
answer the received question when presenting the project.

GROUP ASSIGNMENT

1. Analyze the fundamental distinctions in the institutional structure between


ASEAN and the EU, and explain these variances.
2. Analyze the corporation in combating cybercrime in ASEAN and provide
some recommendations for enhancement from the following perspectives:
- The legal framework;
- The implementation practice;
- Propose solutions to enhance the effectiveness of ASEAN cooperation in
combating cybercrime.1
3. Review the tariff liberalization mechanism changes from the Common
Effective Preferential Tariff Scheme for the ASEAN Free Trade Area (CEPT) in
1992 and the ASEAN Agreement on Trade in Goods (ATIGA) in 2009. Evaluate
the current implementation status of some member states.
4. Analyze the 2005 ASEAN Mutual Recognition Arrangement on
Engineering Services and evaluate its enforcement status in Vietnam.
5. Examine new distinctions in service liberalization under the ASEAN
Trade in Services Agreement (ATISA) 2019 and the ASEAN Framework
Agreement on Services (AFAS) 1995. Evaluate the potential advantages and
obstacles faced by ASEAN member states when implementing the ATISA.
6. Analyze the provisions on the investor-state dispute setlement (ISDS) by
the ASEAN Comprehensive Investment Agreement (ACIA) 2009. Specifically,
consider the following aspects:
- The extent of coverage;
- The dispute resolution methods;
- The procedures for resolving disputes.
- The limitations of the ISDS mechanism, as well as some proposals for
reforming it.
