drugs such as marijuana and shabu.
Coping mechanism

▪Many people believed that smoking

would help them deal with stress and
feelings of anxiety.
▪Smoking cigarettes was used as a coping
mechanism for many people, especially
those who preferred to self-medicate
instead of seeking expert help.
THREE smokes produced by cigarette
smoking

▪Mainstream smoke refers to the

smoke that is inhaled by a smoker and
then exhaled into the environment.
▪smoke that passes from a cigarette into the
surrounding air, rather than into the smoker's lungs.
▪"asthmatics experience a significant decline in lung
function when exposed to sidestream smoke"
Thirdhand smoke
▪is residual nicotine and other chemicals left on
indoor surfaces by tobacco smoke.
▪People are exposed to these chemicals by
touching contaminated surfaces or breathing
in the off-gassing from these surfaces.
▪This residue is thought to react with common
indoor pollutants to create a toxic mix
including cancer causing compounds, posing a
potential health hazard to nonsmokers —
especially children.
• clings to clothes, furniture, drapes, walls,
bedding, carpets, dust, vehicles and other
surfaces long after smoking has stopped.
• The residue from thirdhand smoke builds up
on surfaces over time. To remove the
residue, hard surfaces, fabrics and
upholstery need to be regularly cleaned or
laundered.
• Thirdhand smoke can't be eliminated by
airing out rooms, opening windows, using
fans or air conditioners, or confining
smoking to only certain areas of a home.
▪Gangrene is a condition that
occurs when body tissue dies.
▪It is caused by a loss of blood
supply due to an underlying
illness, injury, and/or
infection.
• Fingers, toes, and limbs are most
often affected, but gangrene can also
occur inside the body, damaging
organs and muscles.
