What is gateway drug?
Is a habit-forming drug that, when consumed, gives
way to harder, more dangerous drugs.

GATEWAY DRUGS
Gateway drugs such as cigarettes and
alcohol are legal drugs that non-drug user
might try, which can lead him/her to more
dangerous drugs such as marijuana and
shabu.
Cigarettes and alcohol
Since cigarettes and alcohol are readily
available and generally accepted in our
society, many people use them for various
purposes. Teenagers like you are
especially vulnerable because you are
curious and risk takers.
Cigarettes
a small tube of thin paper filled with pieces of cut
tobacco that is used for smoking.
Smoking
It is the process in which a substance is burned, and
resulting a smoke is breathed in to be tested and
absorbed into the bloodstream.
Most commonly, the substance is the dried leaves of
the tobacco plant which have been rolled into a
small square of rice paper to create a small, round,
cylinder called cigarette.
Tobacco
It is a tall, leafy plant, originally grown in South and
Central America, but now cultivated throughout the
world. There are many species of tobacco but
nicotiana tabacum or sometimes called common
tobacco is preferred for producing present day
cigarette.
Nicotine
the main ingredient in cigarette it is highly addictive.
It is toxic colorless or yellowish oily liquid.
Three Types of Cigarette Smoking

1. Mainstream Smoke is directly inhaled through


the burning cigarette by the smoker.
2. Exhaled Mainstream Smoke, the smoke
breathed out by the smoker from his or her lungs.
3. Sidestream Smoke, the smoke that drifts from
the end of the lit cigarette.
Secondhand Smoke consists of exhaled
mainstream smoke and Sidestream smoke.
Thirdhand Smoke consists of tobacco residue
from cigarettes, cigars, and other tobacco
products that are left behind after smoking.
Why people do not smoke…
1. It is unhealthy. It is incredibly addictive, especially when
people start in their teens
2. Makes clothes smell and teeth yellowish
3. It is draining money
4. It affects one’s state of mind. Teen smokers are more
likely to have anxiety disorders and depression
5. It affects one’s athletic ability
