Word Definition
Drugs

Illegal drugs are like poisons. The amount of drugs that you
take determine the effect they will have on you and your
body. The more that you take the more harmful the effect.
If you take too much or too many drugs you may overdose
and die. Drugs affect how you think, act, and feel. A person
taking drugs may get really angry, inappropriate, or
dangerous. A person on drugs may also get really paranoid
and think that people may be watching him/her, or following
him/her. Drugs affect the ability of one to think clearly.

Drugs act as stimulants that speed up the way your body

works, or it acts as a sedative where it slows everything down.
Drugs prescribed by the doctor are to help a person, but the
person must not take too many, or too much of a drug. The
person must take the amount prescribed by the doctor.

Using drugs can cause the person to forget things, or lose part
of their memory. Using drugs may also create many social
problems with family and friends.
Why do People Use Drugs?

There are legal and illegal drugs. A drug is defined as a

chemical substance that affects the brain which causes
changes in the way a person thinks, acts, and behaves. It
can often end in addiction as well. Legal drugs are used by
doctors to help patients heal, get better, or feel less pain. An
illegal drug is against the law.

So if some drugs are against the law, why would people take
drugs and use them?

When asked some young people used drugs because they

wanted to fit in with others, felt pressured, or wanted to rebel.
They think that drugs are a solution to their problems, but
actually create even more problems. Some drugs that
change the way a person feels are highly addictive. That
means that the body craves that particular drug. When
people are addicted to a drug they will often do almost
anything to get drugs. They may break the law and steal so
that they can support their drug habit. So make a good
choice and do not try drugs.
