SFC SPED IS Athletes Emerge as City Meet 2024 PARA GAMES Overall Champion

Twenty-four student representatives of the San Fernando City SPED Integrated School
participated in the City Meet 2024 at La Union National High School from February 6 –
8, 2024, in preparation for the upcoming R-1 Athletic Meet this April.

The three-day competition featured various sports, including Basketball, Volleyball,


Baseball, among others, with our athletes participating in Athletics and Bocce. The
annual event aims to support physical education and sports to enhance all youths'
talents and capabilities; encourage inclusive positive competitiveness; and inculcate the
virtues of discipline, teamwork, and excellence.

"Participating in external school events such as the City Meet is one of the best venues
and opportunities to enhance our students' sportsmanship and camaraderie," said Mrs.
Fatima Sali-ot, the School Sports Coordinator.

The SPED athletes, comprising 24 students along with 13 coaches and chaperones,
achieved remarkable results:

ID – 15 & Below Boys – Emmanuel Jobert Refugia earned first place in the 400m dash,
Running Long Jump, and Shotput. Wilmer Lamigo secured first place in the 100m dash
and third place both in RLJ and Shotput. John Denver Marzo emerged as second place
in the 400m and 200m dash, while Gerald Madayag achieved third place in the 200m
dash. The boys also clinched first place in the 4x100m Relay, coached by Fatima C.
Sali-ot.

ID – 16 & Up Boys – Mark Casillan won first place in the 400m dash and RLJ, and
second place in the 200m dash. John Kyiel Balancio won first place in Shotput. Paul
Benedict Sison received second place in the 100m dash and 400m dash. Mark Steven
Gazmin obtained third place both in the 100m and 200m dash, while Eldrin Joaquin
Gamboa secured third place in Shotput. They also won first place in the 4x100m relay,
coached by Alfie Apolinar.

ID – 16 & Up Girls – Althea Angel Padilla remained formidable in her final year, securing
first place in all her events: 400m dash, 200m dash, RLJ, and leading the girls to first
place in the 4x100m relay. Jarras Rollyne Tabafunda got first in the 100m dash and
second place in Shotput. Xymph Daphne Pang-ag obtained second place in the 100m
dash, 200m dash, and RLJ. Sarah Jane Fosilero achieved first in Shotput and second
place in the 400m dash, coached by Milagros Oligo.

ID – 15 & Below Girls – Bea Valdez won first place in the 200m dash and Shotput,
second place in the 100m dash. Mary Joy Apiado got first place in the 400m dash and
third place both in the 100m and 200m dash, coached by
Visually Impaired Boys – Jerome Paulo Sobrepeña achieved first place in the 100m
dash and second place both in Standing Long Jump and Shotput, coached by
Remedios Bruno.

The Bocce Team, comprising Sonny Rivera, Rey Albert Soriano, Ashley Joaquina
Gamboa, and Franchesca Gene, emerged first in their respective categories, coached
by Eliza Valdez.

Johan Emmanuel Flores and Varon Miles Federico, along with their coach Elizabeth
Flores, qualified for the Aquatics Event.

With these awards, the SFC SPED IS was proclaimed the overall champion of the
PARA Games at the City Meet 2024. These achievements have secured the student
representatives a spot to compete in the Regional Meet PARA Games this April.

"We are very grateful to our coaches and SPED IS for giving us the opportunity and for
the continuous support from the beginning until the end of our enjoyable but challenging
journey," shared Sali-ot.

"We’re very proud of our students and their performances as well," expressed Dr.
Emeliza P. Abulencia, School Principal. She further emphasized that the San Fernando
City SPED Integrated School is always ready to support our dear learners not only in
excelling academically but also physically and socially.
