Report Cards: Report cards will go home on February 15th. As we will be teaching a lot of important information and concepts this month, your childs daily attendance and punctuality is imperative. Should your child miss these lessons due to extended absences, it will be difficult to accurately assess your childs learning as we prepare for writing report cards at the end of January/beginning of February.

Math:

26

We continue to add and subtract three-digit numbers at school. Extra practice at home would be very beneficial. Our current math unit requires the children to also solve word problems independently using these skills. The children will begin to identify and count money amounts up to $10.00 near the end of the month. Please help your child to practice at home by counting change (e.g.: the change in dads pocket/mom s wallet, in their piggy bank, playing store, etc.) In Grade 3, students are expected to make purchases up to $10.00 and show the money that needs to be returned. In February, we will learn about linear measurements (mm, cm, m), time and temperature. Parents are reminded to encourage their child to practice telling time on a regular basis using both analogue and digital clocks. The children must be able to recognize time to the hour, quarter to, quarter past, half past and to the nearest minute. Distinguishing elapsed time will also be taught.

Science:

Students have wrapped up their unit on soil. We have already begun our next unit investigating forces and movement . Social Studies: This week the students began to learn about Urban and Rural communities. Towards the end of the unit (March), a home/class project will be assigned. The children will need to represent one of the two communities in a diorama. More information will be sent home in February.

*Winter is here! The children love to play in the snow and they are often outside during the day for recess. Please make sure that your child comes to school wearing a warm coat, boots, hat and mitts. (Extra socks kept in his/her school bag is also a good idea.) Please remember to label you childs jacket, snow pants, hats and mittens with their name. (WE are trying to keep the Lost and Found box empty!) MERCI!
