s. Thesecoursesaredesignedtohelpstudentsdevelopbasiclistening,speaking,readingandwritingskillsinSpanishand toprovidethemwithanintroductiontotheculturesoftheSpanishspeakingworld. Becauselearningalanguagerequiresbeingexposedtolargeamountsofthatlanguageandgettingaccustomedto communicatinginthatlanguage,itishighlyrecommendedthatyoutrytousetheSpanishlanguageinall communicationswithyourteacherandfellowstudents,andoutsidethelearningplatform(Blackboard).Studentsshould notexpecttocomprehendeverywordthattheirinstructorwritesandsays;insteadtheyshouldtrytousewhattheydo knowtotrytocomprehendtheoverallmeaning.Afterafewweeks,theyshouldunderstandmuchmore.Inaddition, studentsshouldbesuretoaskquestionswhentheydonotunderstand.Studentswhoarehavingdifficultyarealso encouragedtorequestadditionalexplanationsduringtheirinstructors'officehoursorontheplatformforums. Asadistancelearningcourse,SPAN115DLrequiresstudentstostudyandpracticethelanguageontheirownfollowing theguidanceoftheinstructor.Studentsareexpectedtoreadontheirowngrammarexplanationsincludinginthebook, beforedoingthegrammarandculturalexercisesonMcGrawHillCentro.Questionsaboutgrammarwillbediscussedon theBlackboardforumsandduringofficehours.StudentsarealsorequiredtoparticipateinseveralBlackboardforums, towritethreecompositionsandtopreparetwooralprojects.Instructorwillscheduleindividualonlineinterviewswith thestudentstodiscussclassprogressonaregularbasis.Learningalanguageonanonlinesettingrequiresasmuchwork aslearningintheclass,alongwithagreatamountofdiscipline.
