About Middleton Place

Middleton Place, an 18th-century rice plantation and now National Historic Landmark, is Americas oldest landscaped gardens. Begun in 1741 by Henry Middleton, The gardens contain the oldest camellias in the new world, planted in 1786 by French botanist Andre Michaux. The property also includes The Middleton Oak, whose age is estimated at nearly 1000 years, the rice mill and pond, and the butterfly lakes. In all, Middleton place was home to four important generations of Middletons including Henry, President of the First Continental Congress; Arthur, a signer of the Declaration of Independence; Henry, Governor of South Carolina and an American Minister to Russia; and Williams, a signer of the Ordinance of Secession. The 65 acres of landscaped terraces, shadowy allees, ornamental ponds and garden rooms were laid out with precise symmetry and balance, making Middleton Place the most unique and grand garden of its time. In fact, the grounds are picture perfect. Scenes in the movies Queen, Scarlet and more recently, The Patriot starring Mel Gibson, were filmed on loca tion at this beautiful and expansive plantation.

Brand development through brochure design using Photoshop and InDesign. Photography by Sarah Cramer and Jen Farrielo.

Albemarle Baking Company Holiday Brochure NOTES The bakery had been relying on word of mouth and in-store signage to promote their special holiday items. This new brochure, in conjunction with the launch of twitter and facebook pages, increased sales and projected a more competent, professional image.

Brand storytelling through brochure design using original hand-drawn illustrations, Photoshop, and InDesign. Collaborative copy writing.

Feast! Store in Your Pocket Brochure NOTES Feast! participates in many events off-site as well as having a store that is a tourist attraction in its own right. They needed a brochure that reflected exactly what Feast! is. An original illustration of the whole store keeps words at a minimum and keeps the focus on the environment.

Print advertisements created in Photoshop with original photography.

Harrys Grill Bar Print advertisements NOTES Using key elements from Harrys existing brand identity (color, gradient and typography), I created ads for local magazines with photographs that I took highlighting products that were relevant to each respective issue (top right, a feature on local beef; top left, local cocktail bars).
CLIENT PROJECT

Branding and identity through logo design (2 formats) and business cards using Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.

Free Union Grass Farm Logo and Business Cards NOTES Free Union Grass Farm wanted to introduce themselves as hip and current. In establishing their brand, it was important to base the design on the grass which is the axis of their farming philosophy and practice, and which also feeds all of their animals.

Poster and E-invite created in InDesign with stock photography.

Bethany Christian Services Invitation and Poster for seminar NOTES Using an image of paper chain people, beloved of children, I avoided using clichd images and was able to keep the color scheme simple, optimistic and cheerful. The simplicity of the image also translated well to brand the whole event, from name badges to programs

Gift program promotion and branding through large posters, in-store signage and gift packaging featuring original hand-drawn illustrations and original vector graphics created in Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.

Feast! A Year of Cheese gift program NOTES As a gift subscription program, this needed branding on every level, from large promotional posters to the design of the gift itself, in the form of a passport. The three animals (fondly known as the girls) have become successful ambassadors of this program, and of Feast! in general.
PROJECT

Guerilla marketing using posters and postcards created using Photoshop and InDesign with stock photography.

Vanguard Theatre Company Pericles poster and postcards NOTES Familiarity with the play was integral to creating a compelling image for this poster. Since the budget was extremely limited, I created this image by layering five free stock images, which enabled the company to use their budget to produce more posters and postcards.
