BLACK HISTORY MONTH

Why was February chosen as Black History Month? Carter Goodwin Woodson, a noted historian, publisher, & pioneer in American Black History, chose February for several reasons. Some very significant events occurred during the month of February which affected Black American History. Also, it is in celebration of two historical figures who had a great impact on Black Americans, both having birthdays in February: Abraham Lincoln (Feb. 17, 1809) & Frederick Douglass ( Feb. 17, 1818).
