A Detailed Lesson Plan in Math

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:

K- Find the volume of a cube.

S- Writes the solution in finding the volume of a cube.

A- Participate actively in the class activity

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic: Find the Volume of a Cube

B. Reference: WVLSM5ME-IVc-77 - WBLSM5ME-IVc-79

C. Materials: Rubik’s cube, Cartolina, Visual Aid, Speaker

D. Subject Integration: ESP, English, Araling Panlipunan, MAPEH(Health and Art)

III. PROCEDURE

Teacher's Activity Student's Activity

A. Preliminary Activities

1. Prayer

"Class, please stand for the prayer."

"As we say in the name of the Father, the Son

and the Holy Spirit."

(Playing an audio record of a prayer)

"What about water break?" "Done teacher"

"That's good to hear, knowing that it can help us

to be healthy and feel active in the class."
3. Checking of Attendance

"Please count the number of present for today

and write it on our attendance chart."
( The child is writing the number of present
"It seems like everyone is present." in the attendance chart)

4. Chant

"Okay thank you children" (Pupils are executing the chant)

"Please take your seat"

5. Setting of Classroom rules

"Before we are going to proceed in our lesson

this morning, let us first read our classroom
rules:

Class Rules:

1. Listen carefully
2. Keep your hands and feet to yourself
3. Follow directions
4. Raise your hand if you have something to
say
5. Show respect and kindness to your
classmates
6. Do your best.

Do you agree with our class rules?

6. Review

Now listen, yesterday we discussed about

polygons, right?

"Let's play a game but let us all be guided with

our grouping rules.

Grouping Rules: : Yes teacher.

Get along

Respect each other

On time

Use soft voice

Participate

Stay with your group

"So am I clear to you children?"

"The game is called Spatial Game and what you

are going to do is you have to guess what kind of
solid figure is in the picture." : Yes teacher

(Showing picture of different kinds of solid

figure)

(Let the student guess the picture being shown)

: Cube

: Rectangular prism

: Sphere

: Cone

: Pyramid

: Cylinder

:Triangular prism

"Very good everyone, let's give ourselves a aling

Dionisya applause"

7. Motivation
(Pupils are executing the fireworks applause)
"Now I have here a picture and this will give us
an idea about what we are going to discuss this
morning."

""This activity is called 4pics 1 word."

So you have to guess the one word of these

pictures

____

I B C

S U D

E Z A

Very good, the picture is all about cube.

Let's give a may tama ka applause

Cube- A spatial figure with equal side : Sir the picture is all about cube.

(English subject integration) (Pupils are executing the may tama ka

applause)
Together, let's spell the word cube

"So our topic for this morning is all about cube

and we are going to find its volume"

Do you have an idea about volume of a cube? :CUBE

Stay where you are and listen carefully because

for this morning we will learn about what is a
volume and how can we find the volume of a
cube?
B. Presentation

(Showing a realia of a Rubik's cube)

Do you know what is this class?

Have you tried to solve a Rubik's cube?

Now let's have a short description about Rubik's : A Rubik’s cube sir
cube.
: Yes teacher
( Subject integration in Araling Panlipunan)

The Rubik's cube is a 3-D combination puzzle

invented by a Hungarian sculptor and professor,
Erno Rubik, in 1974. Scientists and scholars
initially used this puzzle for scientific research
and technology development. However, this
puzzle attracted the world's attention due to its
unique characteristics. The Rubik's cube
comprises 26 small cubes that rotate on an
axis. The Rubik's cube plays an essential role in
improving memory as it demands thinking,
concentration, and memorization of different
patterns.

What is the use of a Rubik's cube?

How many small cubes are consisted in a Rubik's

cube? : Used for scientific research and technology
development.

C. Discussion
:26 small cubes
"As we can see, a Rubik's cube is composed of
tiny cubes and all this tiny cubes are what we
called volume."

"So what is a volume? Kindly read the meaning

of a volume."

Volume - is the amount of space a solid

occupies.

"So it is the total space inside a solid figure."

"And all these tiny cubes, they occupies the total
space of a Rubik's cube.

"Did you get the meaning of a volume class?"

: Yes teacher.
When finding the volume 8cm

of a cube we have to multiply the three side, so

the formula will be: V=S × S × S or V=S³.

"What are the difference between the two way of

finding the volume of a cube?"

"Are they the same?"

"Yes they are still the same, in V=S³ is we just

raise S to the power of 3. Meaning, we just
multiply it by itself.

: Yes teacher, they are the same

Example:

V = S³ V=S×S×S

=8×8×8 =8×8×8

= 64 × 8 =64×8

=512 cm³ =512cm³

Another example:

Let the students to solve the given problem)

V = S³ V=S×S×S

=6×6×6 =6×6×6

= 36 × 6 =36×6

= 216 cm³ =216cm³

"Good job, let's give everyone a ang galing

applause."

( Pupils are executing the ang galing clap)

C. Practice

If each sides of a Rubik's cube measuring 4cm,

what is the volume?

Let the pupils to answer on their notebook, after

answering choose one of the pupils to explain : The answer is 64cm³ teacher
his/her answer.

D. Generalization

To summarize the topic we have discussed,

(Please read this)

A volume is the amount space a solid figure

occupies.

A cube is a spatial figure with equal sides

We can use this formula V = S³ or V = S × S × S

to find the volume of a cube

E. Application

Group Activity

Before we proceed to our activity, again let us all

be reminded with our grouping rules.

Grouping Rules:

Get along

Respect each other

On time

Use soft voice

Participate

Stay with your group

Group Activity:

Group the class into 4

Instruction: Measure a model of a cube given by

using a ruler (centimeters) and solve the
problem.

Group 1.

Instruction: Make a song relating to the topic we

have discussed.
Group 2.

Instruction: solve the given problem.

Group 3.

"So am I clear to you class?"

Let’s give group 1 a good job applause

Let’s give group 2 Aling Dionisia applause

Let’s give group 3 a winner applause : Yes teacher

(pupils are executing the good job applause)

(pupils are executing the Aling Dionisia

applause)

(pupils are executing the winner applause)

IV. Evaluation

Direction: choose only the letter of the correct answer.

1. If a Rubik's cube measures 5cm, what is the volume?

A. 90 cm³ B. 100 cm³ C. 125 cm³
2. It is the amount space a solid occupies.
A. Cube B. 3 Dimension C. Volume
3. What formula we can use to find the volume of a cube?
A. V=N+N+N B. V=S×S×S C. V= S×S-S
4. What is the volume of a dice if each sides measures 2cm?
A. 8cm³ B. 10 C. 6

V. Assignment
