Malaybalay hosts 1st cluster of regional palaro

MALAYBALAY CITY (Bukidnon News/16 Nov) Malaybalay City hosted the first cluster of the Regional Meet 2011 where winners will represent Region 10 for the Palarong Pambansa 2012. According to Dr. Florante M. Corpus, Bukidnon schools division superintendent, the first of the three clusters of the Regional Meet held last November 11-13 was comprised of baseball, softball and boxing. The games were held at the Capitol Grounds and at the Brgy 4 gymnasium. The 14 participating teams were accompanied by their respective division heads and sports supervisors. They are from the divisions of Bukidnon, Cagayan de Oro City, Camiguin, El Salvador City, Gingoog City, Iligan City, Lanao del Norte, Malaybalay City, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental, Oroquieta City, Ozamis City Tangub City and Valencia City. During the opening program, City Mayor Ignacio W. Zubiri mentioned the Regional Meet held last February in Tubod, Lanao del Norte in preparation for Palarong Pambansa 2011. He said he was first surprised why the activity will be held again this year but he later found out that the event was done in advance in order to give the resulting winners enough time to train for 2012. We are having the Palarong Pam-Pook twice this year because all through the years, Region X has always been number 10 in its status in sports, but last Palarong Pambansa we are proud to come up to number four, said Dr. MyrnaMotoomull, DepEd-10 assistant regional director . She added that in the previous palaro, region 10 was the only one in Mindanao which placed in the top five. Lou-Ann J. Cultura, Physical Education and Sports Science (PESS) supervisor of DepEd Malaybalay division provided Bukidnon News with the results of the first cluster meet. Cultura added the final cluster will be held in Cagayan de Oro City on December 2- 4. Games to be played there are archery, athletics, badminton, football, gymnastics, lawn tennis, sepak takraw, swimming, and taekwondo. Also, there will be special events for physically challenged children under Special Education (SPED) which includes athletics, swimming and shot-put. Next years Palarong Pambansa will be held in Dumaguete, Negros Oriental. (Hazel Generalao)
