I. Objectives:
1. Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of: South and West Asian literature as
an expression of philosophical and religious beliefs; information flow in various text types; reality,
fantasy, and opinion in listening and viewing materials; word decoding strategies; and use of
information sources, active/passive constructions, direct/reported speech, perfect tenses, and logical
connectors in journalistic writing.
2. Performance Standard: The learner transfers learning by composing a variety of journalistic texts,
the contents of which may be used in composing and delivering a memorized oral speech featuring
use of properly acknowledged information sources, grammatical signals for opinion-making,
persuasion, and emphasis, and appropriate prosodic features, stance, and behavior.
3. Learning Competencies:
1. Define Figurative Language (onomatopoeia, alliteration, assonance)
2. Explain figurative language used. (EN8LT-lVf-2.2.4)
3. Apply figurative language (onomatopoeia, alliteration, assonance) in writing.
The teacher uses objectives that are aligned in content, performance, and learning competencies of the Grade 8 English
Curriculum.

B. Motivation:

The teacher will play a video clip.

Students will list any words that imitate sounds and
repetitive words from the music listened to.
 The teacher will ask these questions:
a. Give three repetitive sounds from the video.
b. Give examples of words that imitate sounds from the video.
c. How do these sounds enhance the listeners’ experience in song?
C. Presentation and Discussion of the Lesson
 The teacher will provide examples of Onomatopoeia, Alliteration, and Assonance. The students
will be asked to analyze the given examples and discuss what they have noticed in the examples.

Assonance based on their activities they previously did. COI 4- students will be asked to read the following text. They will then
identify the number of “I” sounds in example number 3. And solve the number of “f” sounds as well as the number of Falcons in example number 1.

 Figurative Language is a language that is used non-literally to create a special meaning.


 Onomatopoeia is a type of figure of speech that uses words that sound like what it describe.
Examples:
1. The thunder boomed loudly during the night.
2. Squeak squeak the mouse ran under the bed skirt.
3. If you have the hiccups, you should try drinking a glass of water.
 Alliteration is the repetition of the same consonant sound at the beginning of words in close
proximity to each other.
Examples:
1. She sells seashells by the seashore.
2. Peter piper pick a peck of pickled peppers.
3. Silently, the spider slid and surged.
 Assonance is a figurative language which is the repetition of the same or similar vowel sounds
within words, phrases, or sentences.
Examples:
1. Clap your hands and stamp your feet
2. I might take a flight to an island in the sky.
3. When Zeus...stills the winds asleep in the solid drift.
D. Application
The teacher will group the class into 5. Each group will be given a task to present in front. Students will
be given 5 minutes to brainstorm and complete their assigned tasks.

D. Generalization
 Students should pass the key around the class. When the music stops, the student with a key will
choose which door to open.
 Each door has a corresponding question related to the topic which the student must answer.
