Nokia internal co-operation
IPAA Radio solution is a joint offering from MN/GS/Deploy and MN/5G
• MN leads and is responsible for system level aspects, specification and testing
• From product management and P&L point of view, the active parts belong to 5G and passive
parts to GS/Deploy/Antenna Systems
• Recommended that MN Product Sales takes the lead in engagements and offering toward
customer, highlighting that this is a true radio solution, supported by Service Portfolio Sales
• Global Solution Sales team(s) will be enabled to support in usual manner.

Business aspects
Customer engagement
• Our partner (CommScope) has naturally interest to promote their capabilities and their passive
antenna portfolio (they are also one of our main antenna suppliers)
• It is up to each CT if they wish to engage with CommScope on the ground with e.g. joint
presentations to the customer
• In certain cases CommScope may have good relationship with customer that can also benefit
Nokia
• Primary target should be to increase (also) Nokia sales, so if customer is not buying (passive)
antennas from us we can promote (CommScope or other brands) antennas from Nokia if this
is seen as realistic option
• Sales guide for passive antennas can be found at the following link:

Reasoning and background behind the business model
Some customers may have objections to the business model, based on their traditional separation of
antennas and radio. Here are reasons behind the model and some guidance if this is mentioned by the
customer.
IPAA is a complete functional radio solution with related entity level design, testing, type approval etc; delivered
in modules for flexibility and ease of installation.
8T8R configuration enables upgrade to active antenna; if upgradeability is not of interest to customer offer
standard antenna solution (better performance for FDD bands)
Installed base management and future commitments; only Nokia can commit to possible future upgrades or
development of new modules (we must not commit to something we would not deliver)
Clear responsibility and one interface to customer for technical support, HWS, performance etc.
Delivery coordination, as the active part is always required (even when starting with 8T8R respective RRH is
required), delivery of all parts should be arranged at the same time to preclude possible issues
Focus on solution level selling (and pricing), not individual boxes (we have to price competitively due to Huawei
pressure).

Possible customer objections
Sales and delivery for IPAA
We want to buy passive antennas separate from active antennas (as we have done for 25 years....)
Key question is why, what is the end goal they want to achieve?
Is there something missing in Nokia order/delivery handling that should be improved (lead time, order handling, invoicing,
etc.)?
They might be thinking that they can buy passive parts cheaper from manufacturer, or to pressure our pricing with
competing quotes. We have to be competitive on whole solution against Ericsson, Huawei and ZTE, so it is not really
realistic to think we could “overcharge”.
As the industry is increasingly integrating active+passive the way of working and organisations (suppliers and operators)
must adapt; e.g. If they are now having different RAN vendor regions and handling passive antennas independent of those
this does not apply to IPAA, as it is Nokia radio solution (applicable to Nokia region only).
But 8T8R IPAA configuration is purely passive...
The IPAA is specifically designed to accommodate a Nokia 8T8R radio and allows for upgrade to Active configuration.
Nokia need to be responsible for that. 8T8R configuration enables upgrade to active antenna; if upgradeability is not of
interest to customer offer standard antenna solution (better performance for FDD bands)
We are used to discussing technical solutions directly with antenna supplier(s)
This will not change, routing the PO and delivering products is a practical arrangement, which in itself does not affect any
technical dialogue.
