SURFACE TREATING OF STANDING WATER INSECTICIDES FOH l/IGGLER CONTROL:
Where it is impossible to drain areas, water "surfaces mey-be treated in
the following ways:
a. For water areas where there NO FISH it is permissible to use
5 percent DDT in kerosene, Apply a tablespoonful to an area of
about 5 square feet, Kerosene alone may be used but must be repeated
more often than the DDT forrrrulation,
b. For water . .kl.Jish, use either kerosene or a light appli-
cation of a pyrethrum-kerosene larvicide to treat the water surface,
DD1_will kill fisg. Goldfish, if not fed, will control mosquito
wigglers in pools by feeding upon them,

c, Five percent DDT in kerosene or in oil can be used for
treating the surface of barrels and cesspools. Apply a tablespoon-
ful to the water surface of a cistern. Other problems can be solved
according to what is necessary for good control, DDT SHOULD NOT B));_

;[OGGING FOR CONTROL OF MOS(lUI1_0ESt This method is satisfactory for control
of adult mosquitoes for a short period of time, Fogging is of particular value
for elimination of mosquitoes from temporary picnic gro11nds or over swampy areas
where it is impossible to drive ground equipment, Best results are had \olhen the
fog drifts with a mild wind, Insecticidal fon:s may be used around residential
-2-
areas providing they are not objectional to neighboring property. Five percent
DDT in kerosene or light oil is the most form of insecticide used for
fogging,
SCREENS AS A PROTECTION AGAINST All windows and doors
should be properly screened, It is almost impossible to keep mosquitoes out
of buildings unless suitable screens are used,
TREATING SCRJ<;EN !2.00}18,.;. Apply DDT, 5 percent in kerosene to the screen
doors. This treatment may be applied Hith a brush, A wooden bar should be placed
over the screen on the outside for children to push or pull on to open the door,
This bar Hill also help to preserve the treatment by protecting it,
]!'OR TREATING INSIDE THE HOUfu. Sometimes mosquitoes get inside the
house, A pyrethrum spray is both safe and effective for getting rid of mosquitoes
under such conditions,
USE OF Repellents are used to prevent mosquito Suit-
able repellents contain Repellent 6-12, Indalone or dimethyl phthalate, or a
lllixture of these materials, Apply to both the exposed skin and to the clothing,
