What are Hydraulic Structures?

What are Hydraulic

Structures?

Page 3

Course Overveiw
The course deals with different aspects of the design of
hydraulic structures. The course provides the knowledge to
design various hydraulic structures, such as energy
dissipators, head and cross regulators, canal falls and
structures involved in cross drainage works.
The course also teaches the theory necessary to analyse and
design these structures, such as the seepage and uplift
theories and the hydraulic jump.

Page 4

Course objective
The students must be able to independently design and
analyse the hydraulic structures taught in this course and
understand the theory on which the design is based.

Quizzes
Quizzes are short exams that follow a topic to help the
students strengthen their abilities.
There will be a prior notice for the quizzes.

Quizzes cannot be postponed.

Tutorials
Guided tutorials are given following each topic to help students
practice the various designs.
Students will solve a given problem in class.

The teacher will guide the students through solution steps

and answer students questions.

Page 20

Homeworks
Homeworks are given to help students design the different
structures independently and tackle the various problems that
can face a designer during the designs.
Homeworks must be submitted before the agreed deadlines.
Howeworks can be done by a single student or a group of 2-3
students.
It is not allowed to copy homeworks from colleagues or
reports from previous years.
