ABOUT AIR POLLUTION:

Air

pollutionis the introduction of

particulates, biological molecules, or
other harmful materials into Earth's
atmosphere, causing diseases,
allergies, death to humans, damage
to other living organisms such as
animals and food crops, or the
natural or built environment.

HOW AIR POLLUTION IS

CAUSED?

Most of thisair pollutionwecauseresults from the

burning of fossil fuels, such as coal, oil, natural gas, and
gasoline to produce electricity and power our vehicles. Carbon
dioxide (CO2) is a good indicator of how much fossil fuel is
burned and how much of otherpollutantsare emitted as a
result.

OTHER CAUSES OF AIR POLLUTION

Agricultural activities:Ammonia is a very
common by product from agriculture related
activities and is one of the most hazardous gases
in the atmosphere.
Exhaust from factories and
industries:Manufacturing industries release
large amount of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons,
organic compounds, and chemicals into the air
thereby depleting the quality of air.
Mining operations:Mining is a process
wherein minerals below the earth are extracted
using large equipments.

What are the effects of air

pollution on the
environment?

Along with harming humanhealth, air pollutioncan cause a variety

ofenvironmental effects: Acid rain is precipitation containing harmful
amounts of nitric and sulfuric acids. These acids are formed primarily by
nitrogen oxides and sulfur oxides released into the atmosphere when fossil
fuels are burned.

HOW DOES AIR POLLUTION

CONTRIBUTE TO GLOBAL
WARMING?
Air

pollutionincludes
greenhouse gases. One of
these is carbon dioxide, a
common part of the exhaust
from cars and trucks.
Greenhouse gasescause
global warmingby trapping
heat from the Sun in the
Earth's atmosphere.

EFFECTS OF AIR
POLLUTION
Respiratory and heart problems:The effects
of Air pollution are alarming. They are known to
create several respiratory and heart conditions
along with Cancer
Effect on Wildlife:Just like humans, animals
also face some devastating affects of air pollution.

SOLUTIONS FOR AIR POLLUTION

Use public mode of transportation:

Conserve energy:Switch off fans and lights

when you are going out. Large amount of fossil
fuels are burnt to produce electricity
