Two parents were brought into talk about


their Experience having 3 children go
through Oak Ridge Elementary. They are a
bi-Racial family that works hard at raising
culturally aware children.
An Invitation went out to staf about this
optional after school Session.
Over 25 staf showed up.

People that sit in this room are the ones that know better. We need white people to advocate for
our black youth. -Carrie and Corey

You now have a level of awareness, your unconscious is now conscious.-Corey

I can not say Ive walked your journey, but I can say Ill walk this journey with you. -Carrie

Relationships are the Key! They will learn anything from the person they
have a relationship with. -Corey

Race is ever present, its on the menu and you will taste it. -Corey

The session ended with multiple people stating that white educators
need to advocate for more diversity in the workplace.
Many staff expressed interest in additional conversations in the future.
