BORROW PIT

3. After surveying a borrow pit, the surveyor produced the following

borrow pit grid below. If you consider 0.0, the elevation that you can cut
to. What is the total cut volume (cf) available?

SOLUTION

PRISMOIDAL

FROM THE GIVEN CROSS SECTION OF ALANGILAN ROAD

STA 1 +020
+1.5

STA 1 +040
+1.2

ILLUSTRATION

SOLUTION
B/2 + 2.3S = 6.45
B/2 + S = 4.5
1.3S = 1.95
S=1.5
B/2 + 1.5 = 4.5
B = 6m

A1 = 2.3(3) + 1.5(6.45)/2 +
1.5(4.5)/2 + 3(1)/2
A1 = 13.1625 m2
A2 = 3(2)/2 + 1.2(6)/2 + 1.2(6.9)/2
+ 3(2.6)/2
A2 = 14.64 m2

SOLUTION
Note: Use an average dimensions of sta : 1 + 020 and 1 + 040

Am = 2.15(3)/2 + 1.35(6.225)/2 +
3(1.8)/2
Am = 13.974 m2

1.35(5.7)/2 +

Volp= L/6 (A1 + 4Am + A2)

Volp = 20/6 (13.1625 + 4(13.974) + 14.64)
Volp = 279 m

END OF AREA

2. Given the figures, compute the volume by end of area.

SOLUTION
AT1= A1 + A2
= (3x6) + (8x1.5) + (6.9x1.5) + (2x6)
= 26.175 m2
AT2= A1 + A2
= (2.75x6) + (8.3x1.2) + (6x1.6) +
(1.2x7)
= 22.23 m2
VE = L/2 (A1 + A2 )
= 50/2 (26.175 + 22.23)
VE = 1210.125 m 3
