How to locate the noun in a sentence


The noun names the person, place, or thing that the sentence is about.
The noun usually comes before the verb.
The noun is also called the subject of the sentence.
When trying to find the noun in the sentence ask yourself, Who did it?

Lets practice! Read the following sentence and ask yourself who did it? to find
the noun, or the subject.

The man drove his car.

How to locate the verb in a sentence


The verb describes an action.
The verb usually comes after the noun.
The verb is also called the predicate of a sentence.
When trying to find the verb in the sentence ask yourself, What did they (he,
she, it) do?

Lets practice! Read the following sentence and ask yourself what did they do? to
find the verb, or the predicate.

The man ran.
