What is aperture?
By Ayva Torppey

Aperture is the circular opening in the

camera that can change the amount of light
reaching the cameras sensor or film

It is calibrated in f/stops and is written as

numbers like 1.4, 2, 2.8, 4, 5.6, 8, 11, and 16.

Lower f/stops give more exposure, and

higher f/stops give less exposure. In other
words, you can focus on the thing you want to
take the picture of, and blur out the
What is Depth of Field
By Sam Garcia

Depth of Field is the zone of acceptable sharpness

within a photo that will appear in focus

There is a Shallow Depth of Field and a Deep Depth

of Field

A shallow Depth of field is when there is very small

zones of focus

A deep Depth of Field has a very large zone of focus

Three main factors that control your depth of field:

Aperture(f-stop), distance from subject to camera,
Shallow Depth of Field

Showing depth of
field from shallow
to deep.
