Facts
 May pertain to people, places, events,

are not subject for interpretation,
judgment, or inference.
 They can be verified or checked for
accuracy using available references.
 They may also be labeled as true or false
 They are highly unemotional and are
purely denotative in nature
Opinion
 Opinions express personal preference or
value judgments
 Hence, they cannot be proven and verified.
 They are influenced by an individual’s
experience, values, beliefs, and background
knowledge, making them highly connotative.
 Often, they express comparison and
subjective description using words like good,
bad, more, better, best, and most.
 They are introduced by words like I believe, I
think, in my view, probably, seems, appears, and
possibly.
Though readers can distinguish facts from opinions, in
some cases, these two can be blended, consciously or
unconsciously, for emphasis and/or style.
