Your Definition of History:

For me, History is the study of people, their activities/Actions, Decisions/Choices, Interactions, and
Behaviors. Order emerges from disarray. By identifying and categorizing “Facts” we attempt to
understand the past. From these narratives, we hope to be able to explain the choices and actions that shape our
existence.

Activity 1.2

To find out how much have you learned, answer the following question.

1. In understanding the meaning of History, for you, what counts as history?

- For me, History counts as the study of the past to comprehend its dynamics
and meaning. Connection between cause and effect in human societies
overall development. It’s a key characteristic is its wide scope of inquiry, as it
is equally concerned with wide for Administrators, Conservationists, and their
Ideologue. History offers crucial lessons in the management of the
environment.
2. Based from the text History is an academic discipline. As a student, why do we
need to study history?

- As a First-year college students, studying history enables us to comprehend

how historical events shaped the way things are today. Learning from the
past helps us understand who we are and how we got here, as well as how to
prevent mistakes in the future and steer society in better direcctions.
Additionally, history helps us comprehend the world and how it works.
Studying a war teaches us more about how conflict intensifies. We gain
knowledge of the problems that international leaders encounter, how they
resolve them, and if their choices produce better or worse results.

3. As a student, would you think historical sources that were not written should still
be used in writing history?

- For me, it depends. Because historical sources can be documented, we can

still use them now, but if they were recorded, that would be the only way we
could have them from the past. While archeological discoveries might add to
history, they typically still need context and justification.
- In general, anything you publish as history should have an authoritative
source, but it can be tricky to define what exactly qualifies as an
authoritatives source. It is crucial to state clearly whether you will accept
summaries of events provided by another person or accounts from
individuals actual experiences.
