WHAT DID THE AUTHORS DO?
• The researchers developed a reduced order small-signal model
of a microgrid system capable of operating in both the grid-tied
and the islanded conditions
• The researchers also derived a non-linear equation for the
proposed system and is derived through dq before linearizing
and using to construct a small signal model
• The researchers also used a singular perturbation technique in
order to reduce the high order matrix
• For accuracy and validity of the results, a comparison of the
model’s step responses to the experimental results from a
hardware test is manifested
SIGNIFICANCE
• To seek knowledge on how to develop an optimized reduced-
order small signal model of a microgrid system which would
greatly benefit the future researchers of the microgrid system
• The results will also contribute to the body of knowledge as a
basis for the methods applied in a microgrid system especially
on its small signal stability
I. SYSTEM UNDER CONSIDERATION

a) It consists of a synchronous reference frame-based three-phase

inverter with LCL filter connected to the distribution grid at the
inverter bus
II. SMALL-SIGNAL MODEL OF THE ISLANDED
SYSTEM
The authors developed a small-signal model of the
islanded microgrid with a proposed mathematical model
which was verified using a hardware test bed. To take
account on the dynamic analysis of the system, the model
was developed as a switched linear autonomous system
which was independent on the load perturbation when
switching from one state matrix to another. Mathematical
analysis determined the presence of both slow- and fast-
decaying eigenvalues in the system. These slow and fast
modes made the system “stiff.” The full-order model had 36
states describing the dynamics of the system.
III. MODEL ORDER REDUCTION

In this study, dynamic equations are developed and modeled in

order to characterize the system and incorporating the parameters
considered in these approaches.
A) Grid Tied System
In the singular perturbation approach, the fast states are
characterized by the small model parameters ε used as their coefficients. To
identify the small model parameters, the dynamic equations are normalized
as:

B) Islanded System
The normalized dynamic equations for the islanded system

CRITIQUE
• an informative paper
• This would greatly contribute to the current knowledge and
idea on how the microgrids work on different methods applied
to it
• Another additional information on the small-signal stability
analysis on microgrid but with the use of perturbation
techniques to model dynamic equations
LINKAGE TO MY PROPOSED TOPIC
• Because of the detailed analysis provided by the paper, it would give
my proposed topic a boost on how the small signal stability of
microgrid will work around various parameters
• In the case of this paper, the dynamic analysis of the model will be a
great reference on how the microgrids react on various set
parameters
• The provided optimized order reduction in dealing with the
modeling of the microgrid will greatly contribute to the current
knowledge to the analysis of microgrid
• The pertrurbation algorithm used to reduce the order can also be
considered in my paper
• The validaty and accuracy of the experimental results will also
contribute to my current paper through comparison and thorough
analysis
