Hygieia

• In Greek and Roman mythology,

Hygieia, was a daughter of the god of
medicine, Asclepius. She was the
goddess of health, cleanliness and
sanitation.

• She also played an important part in

her father's cult. While her father
was more directly associated with
healing, she was associated with the
prevention of sickness and the
continuation of good health.

• Her name is the source of the word

"hygiene".
What is hygiene?
• Hygiene refers to practices that help maintain
health and prevent the spread of diseases.

• The terms cleanliness and hygiene are often used

interchangeably, which can cause confusion. In
general, hygiene mostly means practices that
prevent spread of disease-causing organisms.
Since cleaning processes (e.g., hand washing)
remove infectious microbes as well as dirt and soil,
they are often ways to achieve hygiene.
Some people may find
that they are missing
out on friends, job
opportunities and
partners because of
something that no one
had ever pointed out to
them- their lack of
better personal
hygiene.

PROPER CORPORATE
WARDROBE
Dress for success

Dressing up for work

doesn’t make you more
productive on the job
— but it does make
you look and act more
professional, and it
upgrades your image in
the eyes of others.
Looks to avoid in the workplace
If your company does not provide uniforms or
has vague guidelines on what to wear to
work, be very careful with what you wear
to work.
Certain looks to avoid:
a. Too sexy
b. Too sloppy
c. Too casual
Too sexy
Too sexy
• Your goal to getting dressed for
work is to project a professional,
competent image, regardless of
your employment level or career
path.
• If you are concerned about your
career, you’ll be more concerned
with looking professional than
looking cute and sexy.
• Avoid wearing see-through lace,
mini skirts, spaghetti straps and
other clothing that show too much
skin.
Too Sloppy
• It's true that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but
people still do. In the case of human beings, that "cover" is
in large part your clothing and others are looking at it to
help gauge an impression of who you are.

• If your clothes are wrinkled, stained, or mismatched, others

typically take this to mean that in a figurative sense you are
too. Sloppy clothing sends the message that you don't really
care … about your appearance, your job, your future or
otherwise.

• Some companies have “Wash Days” or “Casual Fridays”.

On these days employees are allowed wear casual wear
which are comfortable and practical. Clothing should not be
offensive or distracting to others.

Casual Fridays/ Wash Days

Although your
company may allow
you to dress down on
certain days and not
wear a uniform or a
suit, you must always
bear in mind that you
are a professional and
whatever you wear,
your clothes should be
neat and clean.
Women’s Wardrobe
• A smart business suit exudes
confidence and success.
Women should have a classic
fitted suit with a nice blouse.
• The "little black dress" is
considered essential to a
complete wardrobe by many
women and fashion observers,
who believe it a "rule of
fashion" that every woman
should own a simple, elegant
black dress that can be dressed
up or down depending on the
occasion: for example, worn
with a jacket and pumps for
daytime business wear or with
more ornate jewelry and
accessories for evening.
Women’s Wardrobe
• In a formal business
environment, the standard of
dressing for men and women is
a suit, a jacket and pants or a
skirt, or a dress paired with
appropriate accessories.
• It is wise to start building your
corporate wardrobe by
choosing the “safe” colors for a
suit – black, gray, or navy.
• Women need to wear stockings
in the business world. Neutral
or flesh-tone stockings are the
best choices. Never wear dark
hose with light-colored
clothing or shoes
Men’s Wardrobe
• Proper business attire is about being professional and not
about being fashionable. It's about presenting yourself in a
way that makes your clients feel comfortable and confident
with you. Dressing for success is still the rule. The professional
businessman should keep in mind these few points when
deciding what to wear to work:
a. Choose a conservative suit in navy, black or gray either
pinstripe or solid
b. A solid white or blue dress shirt with long sleeves offers the
most polished look. The more pattern and color you add, the
more the focus is on your clothing, rather than your
professionalism.
c. Ties should be made of silk or a silk-like fabric. Avoid the
cartoon characters and go for simple and subtle if you want to
enhance your credibility.
Men’s Wardrobe
d. Shoes should without question be
conservative, clean and well polished.
e. Belts need to match or closely coordinate
with your shoes.
f. Keep jewelry to a minimum. The
business professional should limit
himself to a conservative watch, a
wedding band and maybe his college
ring.
Formal Filipiniana
• The barong Tagalog is an
embroidered formal garment
of the Philippines. It is a
common wedding and formal
attire for Filipino men as well
as women.
• The barong was popularised as
formal wear by Philippine
President Ramon Magsaysay,
who wore it to most official
and personal affairs,
including his inauguration as
president.
Formal Filipiniana
• Filipinos don their finest formal
barongs in a variety of fabrics.
• Piña fabric - is hand-loomed from
pineapple leaf fibers. And because
Piña weavers in the Philippines
are dwindling, its scarcity makes
the delicate Piña cloth expensive
and is thus used for very formal
events.
• Jusi fabric - is mechanically
woven and was once made from
abacca or banana silk.
• Banana fabric - is another sheer
fabric used in formal occasions.
Made and hand woven from
banana fiber, it usually comes with
geometric design details. This
fabric hails from the Visayas
island of Negros.
