INTRODUCTION
Today, the number of people who have
visual defects are reasonably high. Blind
people are able to move independently
because of white cane. However, white cane
has its own limitations and disadvantages. As a
solution to the problem, the researchers came
up with a smart cane device developed to
increase the mobility of a blind person.
Objectives of the Study
1. Explain and describe the features of the assistive
cane for the blind
2. Determine a specific code for a specific task for the
device to work
3. Determine the efficiency of the device, in terms of:
a. distance covered
b. efficiency of the code and the sensor
c. angle
Research Hypothesis
The assistive cane is an upgraded white
cane that is effective in guiding the blind in
interacting with the environment. This can
extensively help the blind person and can
lessen the risk of the person from injuring
himself.
METHODOLOGY

Research Procedures
Step 1: Identification of the Problem
The researchers were able to solicit,
relate and compare the data which led to
the identification of the problem in the
study through intensive research.
Research Procedures
Step 2: Collection and Preparation of
Materials
The researchers bought the needed
materials from a trusted supplier and
stores in order to ensure the safety and
functionality of the device.

Step 3: Arduino Coding
Before the development of the device,
the researchers work on the codes for
both the master and the slave
components.
Research Procedures
Step 4: Construction of the Device
Precise procedures were followed
and other materials were utilized
to enhance the durability of the
actual product.

Step 5: Pre-testing and Demonstration
During the pre-testing, proper
observation must be observed to
test the performance of the device.

The codes serve as the most essential part of the device where it
makes the whole device to function correctly. Both are the codes for
both the Master and Slave components.

Summary
This study aimed to be a smart cane
device developed to increase the mobility of
a blind person. The study focused on the
improvement and innovation of the past
study of the researcher which was
conceptualized using a prototype model
made into an actual application.
Conclusions
The device is composed of the components:
the Master and Slave components. The
device detects obstacles within 1 meter
range.
The code for both the Master and Slave
components were effective and were fully
functional.
The researcher concluded the efficiency of
the device based on the experiments done:
(a) the device is most efficient in the range
of 0-100 cm, (b) the use of the Assistive
Cane is the most efficient way to pass
through obstacles rather than using sticks
or being barehanded and (c) the device can
only detect obstacle within 45° angle or less.
