• FLUE GAS - is a gas exiting to the
atmosphere through a flue.
• FLUE GAS - is a gas exiting to the
atmosphere through a flue.

• FLUE - refers to a pipe, duct or tube which

exhaust gases exit to the
outside environment.
• FLUE GAS - mainly refers to the exhaust gas
or waste gas produces from
combustion processes taking
place inside a fuel-burning
installations.
FLUE GAS consists mostly of ;
- NITROGEN (two-thirds)
- CO2
- water vapor
- excess O2
- other particulate matter
- CO (carbon monoxide)
- NOx (nitrogen oxides)
- SOx (sulfur oxides)
• An analysis of the flue gases ;
» Indicates the air and fuel ratio, thus, make
combustion processes more efficient
» Optimization of thermal processes
» Controlling operations for maximum results
» Improvements of Design
» Minimizes harmful emissions

CHEMICAL METHODS

INSTRUMENTAL METHODS

TRACE COMPONEN T ANALYSIS

 SAMPLING
Samples of flue gases are taken by means of a tube
and an aspirator bulb being drawn either directly into the
analyzer or stored in glass sampling tubes for analysis at
a later date. Sample tubes must be made of a gas tight
material and it depends on temperature as follows:
A.CHEMICAL METHODS

Two types:

1. ORSAT APPARATUS

2. FYRITE TESTER
 Orsat Gas Analyzer
- is a piece of laboratory equipment used to
analyse a gas sample (typically fossil fuel
flue gas) for its oxygen, carbon monoxide
and carbon dioxide content.
• also known as fyrite gas analyzer
• used for measuring oxygen and carbon dioxide.
B.INSTRUMENTAL METHODS

Two types:

1. GAS-LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY

2. MASS SPECTROSCOPY
