Olfactory System
 Olfactory area
 Nasal mucosa is situated the cell bodies of olfactory receptor
 Located-the roof of the cavum nasi, along the septum nasi
and medial wall of concha nasalis superior
 Olfactory cilia – apical superior of the neurons

 Olfactory cilia – apical superior of the neurons
 Fila olfactoria – approximately 20 olfactory nerves
 Lamina cribrosa – pass through tiny foramina in the ethmoid
bone, surrounded by dura mater and arachnoid mater
 Bulbus olfactorius – contact with the inferior surface of frontal
lobe in fossa cranii anterior, olfactory nerve fibers synapse with
mitral cell as secondary neurons
 Tractus olfactorius
 Stria olfactoria – lateral, medial and intermedia (trigonum
olfactoria)
 Substantia perforata anterior
