Traffic Control for

Ambulances

Group Members : Maziha Salih, Nandu Krishnan B

Introduction

• Road traffic congestion becomes a major issues for

highly metropolitan cities.
• Ambulance service is the one of the major services
which gets affected by traffic jam.
• Many lives are at risk because of the delay in the
traffic signal.
Traffitizer
A technology which manages the traffic signals on
detection of Ambulances without compromising the
security.
• This has a hardware-software module that can be
connected to the traffic control system at any traffic
junction.
• All that an ambulance driver has got to do before starting
an emergency trip is to turn on the T-ERS configured in
their ambulance unit. Traffic junctions will automatically
initiate a green channel path when the ambulance enters
a predefined zone near the traffic junction area.
Existing Design
Advantages
• Driver doesn't have to press any button every time
approaching signal.
• Easy to install and cost effective.
• Good emergency response time improve the Global
ranking of the City.
• Supports any type of traffic controller unit.
Disadvantages
• Only applicable for Ambulances which means, An
emergency case in a private vehicle has no
advantage using this system.
VANET- Vehicular Ad-Hoc
Network
• Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANET) is an effective
method of communication between the emergency
vehicle, the traffic lights and the other vehicles.
• A traffic scenario is created to evaluate the performance
of communication between the moving nodes, road side
units and the traffic lights, till the vehicle successfully
reaches its destination.
• VANET is an advanced application of Mobile Ad Hoc
Network (MANET), which can easily optimize road traffic
as well as improve safety so as to provide an intelligent
transport system.
Advantages
• Self-configuring nodes are also routers.
• Self-healing through continuous re-configuration.
• Flexible ad hoc can be temporarily setup at
anytime, in any place.
• The nodes in ad hoc network need not rely on any
hardware and software. So, it can be connected
and communicated quickly.
Disadvantages
• Due to the dynamic changing property,
the ad hoc faces some challenges which
are listed in the below sections.

• Quality of Service.
• Security.
• Co-operation between nodes.
