Earliest Striking time of

Concrete Formwork
Aim
To find the minimum time for early striking time of concrete formwork and the required
minimum strength of concrete for multi-storied residential construction by considering the local
practices.
Objective
• Study about the advantage of Backpropping and their limitations (E.g. thickness of slab, load
relations, emphatical formulas etc.)
•Study about guidelines given in various standards related to early removal of formwork and find
the best suited one which represents the local requirements . ( strength requirement, days of
curing etc.,)
•Study about the use of early strength concrete and accelerated curing methodology and their
limitations.
•Study about deflection of Slabs subjected to early striking of formwork and their effect on long
term deflection
•Study about the current practice in early removal of formwork and giving recommendations to
increase the construction efficiency (E.g. Conducting questionaries' survey, the striking sequence
etc.).
Methodology
•Doing the relevant literary survey .
•Study about different type of forming systems.
•Analytical study of transmission of loads between slabs and shoring during the process of
Backpropping and find the level of Backpropping required for various thickness of slab.
•Design of Backpropping for various thickness of slab.
•Determining the minimum required strength of concrete with and without Backpropping for early
removal of formwork from serviceability criteria by using empirical and analytical methods using the
guide lines given in various standards.
•Evaluation of early stage constructions loads on slab to find out the minimum slab thickness based on
serviceability criteria
•Study about the relevant data to find the impact of early strength concrete and accelerated curing
methodology on early striking time of formwork as compared to normal strength concrete.
Expected form of Outcome
•Giving guidelines on Backpropping and their limitations
•Specifying minimum striking times for early striking of formwork
•Specifying the required minimum strength with and without Backpropping in case of early
removal of formwork and how this influenced by using early strength concrete and accelerated
curing methodology.
•Slab thickness limitations to consider early stage construction loads
•Find the minimum time duration for re-use of formwork and how does this contribute to reduce
the quantity of formwork and false work required.
•Find the sequence of striking and giving guidelines
•Find the additional advantages of using system formwork.
