free form genre combined with several dance
styles and movements
• First is warm ups
• In contemporary dancing are designed to improve
balance coordination alignment and awareness of
a centered bodies
• Stretching and flexibility
• Are key components of any contemporary routine
because these involve the ability to create
interesting shapes
• Floor work
• Involves doing exercise while standing centered in
the middle of the floor or moving across the floor
from one end of the room to the other
• Combinations
• Are usually the last part of contemporary dance
exercise in which fundementals from warm
ups,stretching and floor work
Injuries in contemporary dance

• There are eight common injuries related to this


type of dance
• First is spasm
• Is a sustained and involuntary contraction that
happens after a muscular effort that implies an
overload
• Strain
• This is an expressive dance with dance genres including modern
jazz lyrical and classical ballet
• Dancers strive to connect the mind and body through fluid dance
movements
• Tendonitis
• Is the swelling of tendon structure as a
consequence of major traumas or repeated minor
traumas
• Sprain
• Is the partial rift of ligaments or fibers of the
connective tissue that give support and stability
to the joints
• Dislocation
• Is a partial or total loss of the physical coherence
between two surfaces of a joint that should
remain together
• Fracture
• Is the partial or total loss of continuity of a bone
structure produced by direct or indirect traumas
but can also caused by sicknesses or practices
that weaken the bone structure
• Overload syndromes also known as chronicle
fatigue
• Are local or general swelling manifestations
produced by repetition forced training or
inadequate technique over muscular or ligament
structures
• Vascular syndromes
• Are less frequent and do not make part of the
muscuskeletal system injuries but they can be
caused by demanding physical activity as they can
be consequence of direct major traumas or
repetitive minor traumas
