RHYTHMIC ACTIVITIES
HISTORY
- Rhythmic activities trace back to the Olympics, with sports such as gymnastics that
combined movement with the use of rhythm or so called nowadays, rhythmic
gymnastics. This created a form of physical expression with strength and ability.

Rhythmic Activities
- Commonly extend to physical games with elements of song and dance.
Examples:
● Jump rope games
● Popular dance workouts like Zumba
● Aerobics
Locomotor
- Refers to body movements that move the body from one place to another. They cause
the body to travel.
Examples:
● Walking
● Running
● Hopping
● Leaping
● Jumping

Non Locomotor
- Movements of certain body parts, or even the whole body without causing the body to
travel.
- Also called the axial movements
Examples:
● Bending
● Stretching
● Flexing
● Lifting
● Raising
● Twisting
● Extending
● Turning
● Wiggling

Dance
- An expression of an intensified sense of life, arising from an inner perception that
stimulates both mind and body
- “It is a man’s natural and primitive means of expression”
- Is not only an individual or group experience but also considered as a cultural mirror
wherein the spirit, character and artistry of its time are reflected.
Different Types of Dance:

Dance Education
- Refers to an educational process whereby the central process is the learning and
studying the dance as the medium to understand one’s self society and culture.

Benefits of Dancing
★ Dance effectively promote good health by improving cardiovascular fitness,
strengthening the muscles, increasing circulation, decreasing blood pressure, lowering
the risk of coronary heart disease, reducing stress
★ It improves posture, graceful movements, confidence and manners
★ People dance for enjoyment
★ Healthy living exercise and physical activity is one of the important objectives of
conditioning program
★ People who are engaged in any physical activity such as sports, dance, swimming and
other related exercise activity benefit from it throughout their lifespan
★ Fitness and performance are intended for student to determine their physical condition of
the body the overall objective is to provide the needs of the student with an up-to-date
understanding about the health related exercise

Exercising regularly is an important thing you can do for your good health. It helps to
control appetite, boost mood, and improve sleep.
At least 120 minutes of moderate exercise like walking, jogging, running and dance
aerobic a week can help you reduce the risk of heart disease, heat stroke and diabetes.
Exercise burns calories which can maintain a healthy weight.
